State of Alaska is Hiring a Criminal Justice Technician 1/2 Flex (12-1331) Near Anchorage, AK

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:This position provides support of essential services to assist in the daily maintenance and operation of the Alaska Records Management System (ARMS). Traffic and Citation Software (TraCS), and other law enforcement applications. The incumbent will provide non-complex technical and administrative support to law enforcement users and administrators of these applications.
OUR ORGANIZATION, MISSION, AND CULTURE:The Department of Public Safety (DPS) strives to preserve the peace, enforce the law, prevent and detect crime, and protect life and property. All positions within DPS support or carry out this mission.
 This position is part of the overall “Application Support Team” that reports to Statewide Services as well as the operational-side of the division. These criminal justice technician roles directly support law enforcement across the state with any issue, updates and day to day use of ARMS, TraCS, and other application deemed necessary.

THE WORKING CONDITIONS YOU CAN EXPECT:This position is located in East Anchorage in the Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Headquarters building located at 5700 East Tudor Road. Individual office space for this position is co-located with other criminal Justice Technician staff to encourage team building and collaborative efforts. The Chugach Mountains provide the backdrop for the building and ample parking is available; public transportation drop points are located directly in front of the building and paved trails are located right next to the building.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE TECHNICIAN 1

CRIMINAL JUSTICE TECHNICIAN 2

Successful completion of training under a formally established Criminal Justice Technician 1-2 flexible staffing training plan with the State of Alaska;
OR
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Integrity/Honesty: Contributes to maintaining the integrity of the organization; displays high standards of ethical conduct and understands the impact of violating these standards on an organization, self, and others; is trustworthy.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.

AT TIME OF INTERVIEW

At time of interview please provide:
  • A list of three (3) professional references including daytime telephone number and email address; 
  • At least two (2) of these must be from a current or former supervisor. Professional is defined as a supervisor or an individual who has direct knowledge of your work performance.

FLEXIBLY STAFFED

This position is flexibly staffed. The level of the job offer will be based on the selected candidate’s credibly possessed and proven competencies. If hired at the lower level, you will be promoted to the higher level after completing the training plan and demonstrating competency in the work.

ALASKA PUBLIC SAFETY INFORMATION NETWORKThis position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction, or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally, a security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application or security clearance. BACKGROUND CHECK

This position requires the incumbent to submit to a fingerprint based criminal history background check. Due to the sensitive nature of this position, and required access to APSIN, an applicant with criminal convictions will not move forward in the selection process.
