Employment Services Technician 1 located in Bethel!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 14.
What You Will Be Doing:
The Employment Services Technician 1 participates in strengthening Alaska’s workforce and encouraging economic development by providing quality employment/re-employment and referral services for high demand, high growth occupational industries. This position requires critical thinking skills, presentation and public speaking skills, problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and independent work strategies while utilizing a variety of computer databases and software. The primary duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Facilitating youth-specific workshops on Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, Soft Skills, Job Searching
  • Assisting youth with employment-related internet searches
  • Providing mentoring and coaching to youth on job-readiness skills
  • Planning and coordinating FAFSA nights for in-school youth
  • Organizing job fairs and recruitment events with employers
  • Providing job search assistance, and assist youth with matching their skills to jobs in the current labor market
  • Administering career assessment and proctoring tests: typing, 10-key, WorkKeys, TABE

This is a customer service driven position that involves extensive contact with the public, partners, and schools in the region to explain and elicit information regarding procedures, services, and/or requirements relating to one-stop services. The work schedule consists of 7.5 hour days, with a 37.5 hour workweek. The State of Alaska offers generous paid leave accrual, health benefits and a comprehensive retirement plan. Upon passing probation, you will be eligible for an Alternate Work Week Schedule that will provide every other Monday or Friday off.
The Working Environment You Can Expect:
The Employment Services Technician 1 is stationed in the YK Delta Job Center, 460 Ridgecrest Drive, Suite 112 in the Bethel Native Corporation building. Our building has free parking with electrical plug-ins and is conveniently located next to the AC Co. grocery store. The YK Delta Job Center has a team-centered, professional working environment with an emphasis on exceptional customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience such as providing employment services; coordinating training services; conducting skills assessments; making referrals to community support services; assisting individuals apply for federal/state financial assistance or benefits; providing services to the public; explaining policies, procedures, services, or requirements to the public; resolving customer complaints or problems; calculating costs, refunds, taxes, or benefits; providing written explanations, summaries, reports, or correspondence; or locating and inputting information into data systems such as reservation, ticketing, or application systems.

DRIVER’S LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.

  • A copy of your last three (3) performance evaluations, or two (2) letters of reference if evaluations are unavailable. Personal or character references are NOT accepted in lieu of professional references. A letter of reference from past or current employers is acceptable if the letter is one (1) year old or less.
