Responsibilities
The ET Claims Data Engineering team is developing innovative data products using emerging AWS technologies and capabilities. Working in the Engineering department on the data team, you'll play an integral role working directly with business and technical partners to make decisions and drive pace. Your work is essential for enabling futuristic data solutions on AWS, investigating new and innovative services, and building creative data solutions. As a member of the Claims Data Engineering team, you will be challenged and empowered to grow professionally.
ET Claims is very actively working to modernize the Enterprise Claims System (ECS) application with a goal of hosting the application and its database on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) platform. Currently, applications which rely on ECS data are limited in their ability to leverage Public Cloud offerings due to ECS being hosted on-prem. By moving the entire legacy Claims data to AWS, we will remove several barriers to entry, and enable ET Claims Product Teams to take full advantage of Cloud Native solutions.
Area of Focus:
  • Work closely with Enterprise Technology, other data engineers in other functions, and others on the Claims Data Engineering team to develop data products to support business needs.
  • Keeps up to speed on emerging technologies and champions the application of new frameworks, approaches and/or methodologies with the solutions delivered to business problems
  • Develop and deploy efficient solutions for supporting the futuristic Claims Data needs on AWS, to support the ECS MOD program.
  • Work on a wide variety of technologies, including Relational Database Service on AWS, AWS Elastic Container Service, Data replication Service (Qlik), AWS Elastic Load Balancing, AWS ElastiCache, GitOps, and many more.
  • Develop, test, implement, execute, validate, and monitor logic to build and maintain data products.
  • Prepare and manipulate data for use in development of data analytics solutions.
  • Provide data pipeline solutions for the development, implementation, containerization, execution, validation, monitoring, and improvement of data analytics solutions.
  • Proficient in application software development, data, testing, and technical infrastructure across multiple platforms within their business domain
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding in data engineering practices, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), data integration, reusable data pipelines, data management,
  • Applies overarching, advanced technical knowledge/skills to ensure quality, integration and governance across multiple application environments that may include all of the following: legacy/mainframe; virtualized or containerized web services and platforms (internal and external cloud); mobile solutions
  • Conformance with State Farm data management and governance policies.
  • Establish business domain knowledge for Claims data sources.
  • Identify critical and emerging technologies, techniques, tools, data sources, and platforms in the data engineering field, including cloud-based solutions, that support and extend data solutions.
  • Resolves complex technical problems across products using a DevSecOps approach, researches industry best practices and conducts proof-of-concepts
  • Uses expertise in technical best practices and applies critical analysis to determine/consult on the non-functional requirements, performance bottlenecks, monitoring, and resilience needs of highly-available applications and services within their field of expertise
  • Experiment and prototype solutions which have a large impact.
Qualifications
Desired skills:
  • Experience with developing solutions on AWS Cloud technologies and concepts (Elastic Container Service, Aurora Postgres, S3, EC2, etc.)
  • Design, deploy and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure using Terraform
  • Experience with version control (e.g., GitHub, GitLab)
  • Hands on GitOps experience
  • Experience in programming languages such as Python and SAS
  • Experience with any opensource database such as PostgreSql, MySQL, Etc.
  • Experience with gathering and creating analytic business requirements, researching potential data sources (both internal and external sources), designing, developing, and maintaining data assets
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technologies and languages
  • Experience troubleshooting application performance issues and able to optimize complex systems
  • Enjoys teaching others on technical topics and able to summarize technical topics for a less technical audience
  • Works well with others, able to be a self-starter and navigate the organization to achieve objectives
  • Completed Bachelor's degree in CS or STEM field, or work equivalent

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated high levels of ownership, initiative, and collaboration/teamwork to work within a team and across multiple business teams daily on development and production support items.
  • Leadership abilities in planning, requirements, development, testing(unit/integration/regression/performance), and service of applications supported
  • Works well in fast-paced, ambiguous, and changing environment
