Responsibilities
A major focus will be on developing innovative data solutions to help multiple business areas analyze and understand the financial and business realities impacting State Farm. As a Data Engineer, you will utilize emerging technologies and play an integral role in helping business partners make data-driven decisions to drive pace.
As a Data Engineer you will:
  • Work closely with technology and business customers to develop future data capture, storage, movement, and analytic asset development efforts, with a focus on cloud solutions
  • Provide intelligent data management and pipeline solutions for the development, implementation, execution, validation, monitoring, and improvement/reusability of analytic solutions
  • Identify critical and emerging technologies, techniques, tools, data sources, and platforms in the data engineering field, including cloud-based solutions, that support and enhance quantitative analytic solutions.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
  • Experience or ability to rapidly gain domain knowledge in multiple areas including Claims, P&C, Underwriting and Life
  • Experience in programming languages such as SAS, Python, Spark SQL, R, Java, etc.
  • Experience with relational database technologies and data warehousing concepts (e.g., DB2, Postgres, Oracle)
  • Experience with developing solutions on AWS and/or other large data platforms such as Hadoop
  • Experience with legacy mainframe solutions
  • Experience with version control (e.g., GitHub, GitLab)
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technologies and languages
  • Critical thinking skills to challenge current thinking and apply right technology to solve problems.
Preferred skills:
  • Any experience with AWS data storage solutions (e.g., S3, Redshift)
  • Any experience with Power BI, Quicksight, Qlik, SAS
  • Any experience with data access (e.g., SQL, Athena)
  • Any experience with infrastructure as code/ using deployment automation technologies (e.g., Terraform)
  • Any experience with CI/CD pipelines
  • Any experience with GitOps
  • Any experience with scripting language: Bash, Python etc.
  • Any experience with data analytic solutions like PCADSS and Claims Data Mart
