Position Title: AgriBusiness Assistant

Department:State Fair

Reports To:  AgriBusiness Manager

Supervises: Seasonal Employees

Classification: Full-Time Salaried

Pay Range: $35,000-$39,000/annually (dependent upon experience)

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist the AgriBusiness Manager with the planning and operation of the Livestock Show, Horse Show, 4-H and FFA Exhibit Halls, AGtropolis (agricultural education venue) and other agricultural events/exhibits held in conjunction with the Oklahoma State Fair.
  • Collaborate on budget, planning and selection of events and competitions for the department.
  • Involvement in procuring and scheduling show officials, staff, facility usage as well as negotiating agreements and gathering necessary paperwork to be filed.
  • Serve as an AgriBusiness staff liaison, answering phone calls and emails from participants, potential participants, staff, and the public. Work closely with show officials and superintendents, as well as 4-H and FFA leadership, prior to, during and after the Fair.
  • Coordinate with show superintendents, breed associations, committees, and other stakeholders to edit, prepare, and distribute competition guides, entry forms, awards, event set ups, stalling assignments, and other tasks for the Oklahoma State Fair.
  • Generate necessary reports and forms as required for department activities.
  • Assist with maintaining spreadsheets of department information, finances, and contracts.
  • Process livestock show and exhibit hall entries in ShoWorks, updating entry database, correcting entry issues, and collecting payments from exhibitors.
  • Assist in the preparation of competition sites as well as arranging and distributing awards. Physical and manual labor may be required to complete responsibilities.
  • Work on preparing class breaks and judging sheets each day of the Fair as well as inputting results.
  • Finalize show results post-Fair and assist in preparing and distributing exhibitor premium earnings.
  • Generate a post-Fair report, consisting of suggestions and thoughts for future department activities.
  • Must be available to work extensive hours, days, evenings, and weekends during the Fair.
  • Assist in other departments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software, especially Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to learn new software programs with minimal or no training.
  • A basic knowledge of the agricultural, livestock and/or horse industry and competition procedure is preferred.
  • Must be comfortable with regard to working around animals. 
  • Previous customer service and personnel management experience preferred. 
  • Interpersonal, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills required. 
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated ability to execute projects on time and on a budget with a collaborative work style and commitment to quality.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated multitasker with the ability to work efficiently with minimal or no supervision.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Speak, read and write in English.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Extended hours, nights and weekends may be required during peak periods.
  • Frequent or continual movement from place to place with normal physical mobility, covering long distances with ease, managing assigned tasks throughout various indoor and outdoor locations within and around the property and in potentially inclement/severe weather conditions.
  • Regularly lift, carry and put away items weighing up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and carry heavier items and/or assist others in lifting heavier objects, as job demands.
  • Walk and/or stand for extended periods in addition to other prolonged physical exertions including seeing, hearing, reaching, grasping, lifting, pushing, pulling, squatting, crouching, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in awkward positions and tight areas may be required.
