State Department is Hiring a Project Coordinator - Vacancy ID#146047 Near Albany, NY

A Bachelor's Degree and four years of specialized experience**; OR an Associate's Degree and six years of specialized experience**; OR Eight years of specialized experience**. One year of the specialized experience** must have been at a supervisory level.
Substitutions: A J.D or master's degree may substitute for one year of the specialized experience**; Ph.D. may substitute for two years of the specialized experience**.
**Specialized experience includes experience in one or more of the following areas: stakeholder relationship management and communications, programmatic or scholarly research and report writing, cultural programming, event logistics, and meeting/workgroup facilitation.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of, and familiarity with, African American stakeholders, including cultural, advocacy, academic, and community-based entities.
  • Familiarity with New York State government policies and programs, and/or experience working within the NYS Executive or Legislative branches of government.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships across a diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Exceptional writing skills with a demonstrated ability to transform complex information into concise and persuasive language.
  • Familiarity with community outreach tools and in-person, virtual, and blended event coordination.
Duties Description
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the requested Project Coordinator will coordinate and support the ongoing activities of the New York State Commission on African American History. Created through Executive Order Number 15 in 2022, the New York State Commission on African American History serves to highlight the contributions of African Americans to our country and to the State of New York. The duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate required Commission activities to facilitate the holding of public meetings, events, and other activities as appropriate.
  • Assist with research on African American history, arts, and culture; and prepare and present findings and materials to Commission members.
  • Provide data and technical assistance to Commission members, as needed.
  • Coordinate logistics for required public meetings, including securing physical space, setting up webcasting capabilities, coordinating public access to both in-person and virtual resources, and overseeing the conduct of meetings.
  • Work with DOS Public Information Office staff on marketing and messaging of Commission meetings, activities, and work products.
  • Monitor public comments, questions and suggestions submitted to the Commission's online feedback form; answer questions and/or present to Commission members, as needed; and formulate and present recommendations on Commission direction and activities based on stakeholder feedback.
  • Coordinate the completion and submission to the Governor and Legislature of the Commission's required reports of planned activities, accounting of received and expended funds, and findings and recommendations.
  • Coordinate the completion and submission to the Governor and Legislature of the Commission's required final report of completed activities, final accounting of received and expended funds, and findings and recommendations by 6/1/24.
  • Assist with other items as needed, to support the New York State Commission on African American History.
Additional Comments

The position is temporary for the duration of the New York State Commission on African American History project, which is currently approved through 09/15/2024.
The position may be in either Albany or NYC, and travel is expected between the two locations, as well as other areas of NYS, as needed.
If assigned to the NYC office, an additional $3,087 location pay will be added to compensation.
