Essential Functions:

The ideal candidate will share Fresno City College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the 2020/2021 academic year, we enrolled over 21,500 students in which 60% identify as Latinx, 12% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 5% as Black/African American, 18% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 4% as multiracial. Fresno City College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.
Provide coordination of a comprehensive adult education program at Fresno City College and off-site community locations. The Adult Education Coordinator will be responsible to:
  • Coordinate and conduct outreach and matriculation services to local adult schools and community agencies, including facilitating workshops, and other onboarding activities;
  • Serve as liaison by collaborating with on campus committees, community organizations, and regional consortiums to serve the adult student with transition, enrollment, and retention;
  • Recruit for and implementation of non-credit, EMLS (English for Multi-Lingual Speakers), and high school equivalency courses on and off campus:
  • Coordinate a comprehensive dual enrollment program for adult school students transitioning to Fresno City College;
  • Identify student and community needs and interests related to adult education, resulting in implementation of services, courses, and other relevant programs;
  • Serve as Instructor of non-credit and/or other courses related to the adult learner;
  • Facilitate department meetings and staff development opportunities;
  • Collaborate with faculty to develop intervention strategies for the retention of disproportionately impacted student groups to reduce equity gaps; this includes integration of campus initiatives such as Student Equity & Achievement, Core 9, and Guided Pathways;
  • Foster collegiality between faculty and staff who serve adult students;
  • Serve on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;
  • Create student and service learning outcomes, regularly evaluating them, and keeping and reporting accurate records;
  • Develop policies and procedures as a part of the department operations;
  • Collect data from the college database, student sign-in sheets, and student satisfaction surveys to provide end-of-semester and annual reports;
  • Participate in regular professional development;
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
  • Otherwise fulfill all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND
  • Any masters level discipline in which learning assistance is provided at the college where the coordinator is employed; OR
  • A masters in education, educational psychology, or instructional psychology, other masters degree with emphasis in adult learning theory; OR
  • A valid California Community College Credential; OR
  • The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications:
  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  • Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;
  • Related work and professional experience;
  • Demonstrated recent experience planning and coordinating a student services program related to adult education;
  • Demonstrated recent experience providing direct services to the adult learner;
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain partnerships in the community, such as those in adult schools, organizations, and regional consortiums;
  • Knowledge of current trends and issues regarding legislation as it relates to adult education,
  • An understanding of and commitment to the role of a comprehensive community college in an urban multi-cultural setting, with prior experience in working with non-traditional students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds;
  • Teaching experience, including online teaching, preferably in a community college;
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant pedagogy, assessment methods, instructional materials, and strategies that meet the needs of a diverse student population;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Ellucian (or similar higher education platform), learning management systems such as Canvas or Blackboard, and databases such as SARS and Starfish;
  • Knowledge of budget planning and monitoring;
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis and data dashboards, such as Tableau Data;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty and staff;
  • Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth; and
  • Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.
Conditions of Employment:
205 duty days per year. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment.
Salary and Benefits:
Starting annual salary is $60,678 - $105,801 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,270 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.
From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.
The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the "recommended candidates". These candidates will be forwarded to theVice Presidentand College President for final interviews.
A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
