Starkey is Hiring a Hearing Research Scientist I Near Prairie, MN

Starkey is looking for a Hearing Research Scientist who will support the initiatives of the Clinical and Audiology Research team. The primary responsibility of this position is conducting a variety of short- and long-term research studies that will have an impact on future hearing aid technology and bring benefit to the hearing impaired. Projects include perceptual science experiments, prototype technology evaluations, novel audiological procedure development, and validation of new hearing aid features. The individual in this role will participate on multidisciplinary teams throughout Starkey, including R&D, Product Management, Marketing and Education & Training. Ideal candidates will have experience in hearing research and statistical methods, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, and be passionate about making a difference in the lives of those with hearing-impairment and auditory disorder.

OB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS

  • Design and conduct speech and hearing research that will lead to innovations in the hearing aid industry.
    -Analyze and interpret experimental results within the context of scientific discovery.
    -Manage experimental documentation and procedures, including writing experimental protocols and final reports.
    -Assist in developing Starkey’s research portfolio in hearing science by designing hearing science research that leads to innovations in the hearing-aid industry.
  • Support internal innovation initiatives, including contributing to the corporate intellectual property portfolio.
    -Monitor patent literature in relevant areas of expertise and create and file patentable inventions.
    -Participate in and contribute ideas to department and company-wide innovation initiatives. 
  • Promote and support research internally and externally.

-Publish research in scientific journals and present results at conferences.
-Manage, consult, and/or participate in all phases of collaborative research with external university researchers and researchers at partner companies.
-Provide research expertise and support to other departments within the company. 
JOB REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements 
Education:

Ph.D in Hearing Science or related scientific field such as psychology, neuroscience, or electrical engineering with research expertise in hearing impairing required. 
Experience: Extensive experience conducting research on auditory perception and speech understanding as well as experience designing a variety of
different experimental protocols
Knowledge/Technical Requirements  • Understanding of hearing aid technology and fitting systems
• Thorough knowledge of the hearing science literature, including topics in binaural hearing and spatial audio
Competencies, Skill and Abilities • Skills in the use of audiological and psychoacoustic instrumentation
• Skills in the use of MATLAB or equivalent programming tools for quantitative analysis of signals and systems
• Statistical analysis capabilities
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Strong leadership characteristics
• Exceptional ability for innovation and creativity

• Psychoacoustic and Hearing Workstation with multi-channel sound card, Audiometer, Soundbooth audio
system, Hearing aid electroacoustic analyzer, videoconferencing system, Real-Ear measurement system
