JOB SUMMARY DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB

The Firmware Technician is responsible for the effective verification of the hearing aid firmware. Moreover, the Firmware technician will assist in a variety of activities throughout the Firmware department that will accelerate the pace of development. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/RESULTS 

  • Understand firmware systems requirements and/or requirements for a particular firmware module.
    • Understand the firmware module at a high level and its interface through participation in meetings, studying associated documents and reference materials, etc.
  • Understand test cases and execute test cases on released firmware.
    • Understand the test cases and how they apply to the firmware system requirements
    • Verify the functionality of the firmware using software tools such as PECS, python scripts, development boards, measurement tools, etc.
  • Clearly document the results and communicate with developers.
    • Log results based on the established processes.
    • Clearly communicate issues with FW developers and work with them to root-cause and resolve issues.
  • Assist in a variety of activities throughout the Firmware department.
    • Assist team members with configuration of devices.
    • Assist in lab setup.
    • Assist in creation of certain documents.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

  • Education
    • Technical degree in Software or Electronics
  • Experience
    • Experience using engineering software tools
    • Experience working with embedded systems is desirable
    • Experience in wireless communication is desirable.
    • Experience in using electronic hardware
    • Experience in audio and/or wireless is highly desirable

Knowledge / Technical Requirements 

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting.
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate and organized.
  • Great oral and written communication skills are a must.

Competencies, Skills & Abilities 

  • Skill in computer programming is desirable.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office Products.
