POSITION SUMMARY:

The Nutrition Specialist is responsible for reviewing and planning nutrition services in Early Childhood Education programs, developing and providing training and technical assistance and partnering with the Health Specialist to ensure children's dietary needs are met. The Specialist works as a member of the Starfish team supporting children and families to achieve the outcomes as outlined in the Blueprint for Brighter futures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in Dietetics, Health Nutrition or Nutrition
• Minimum of 3 years previous experience supporting early childhood education programs
• Registered Dietitian preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Develop material regarding nutrition for children, parents and staff
• Provide training and technical assistance to staff as needed, including site visits
• Collaborate with community organizations to provide additional support and services for families and staff
• Approve menus to ensure children's dietary needs are met, including food allergies and cultural sensitivity
• Develop, review and revise policies and procedures to meet regulatory guidelines
• Prepare reports from data sources for program, agency and funders
• Participates in parent meetings as requested to provide nutrition education and counseling
• Provide up-to-date information regarding USDA/CACFP policies and policy changes
• Actively participates on Health Services Advisory Committee
• Collaborates with the kitchen team to ensure meals and menus meet children's dietary needs
• Maintains child files related to nutrition information

LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid driver’s license and / or reliable transportation.
