Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant (IECMHC) position provides a wide range of services including infant and early childhood mental health consultation in an early childhood educational setting. The primary tasks include classroom observations; facilitating trainings for education employees and parents; leading reflective supervision group; collaborating with multidisciplinary team and management; screening, assessment, and referrals for services; and supporting children for successful participation within their educational setting. Employees in this position function with a great deal of professional autonomy and creativity under the supervision of the IECMHC Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other related human service field required.
  • Full or Limited License in social work, counseling, or psychology in the State of Michigan preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in the examination, evaluation, and treatment of early childhood population is required.
  • Infant Mental Health Specialist Endorsement preferred.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide all services as outlined in the Starfish IECMHC Best Practices guide to support socio-emotional health and wellness in the preschool setting.
  • Coordinate and monitor intra-agency referrals for evaluations, consultation, preschool, and other services between the Early Childhood Education department, Behavioral Health Services department, and the community.
  • Learn and understand Office of Head Start performance standards related to mental health.
  • Develop and facilitate groups for children, parents, and/or Early Childhood Education staff as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive assessments and treatment planning with measurable objectives, as needed.
  • Provide support and crisis intervention with families and children involved with the program.
  • Provide Infant Mental Health and Early Childhood services within the home and community settings in accordance with the Medicaid Provider Manual for the State of Michigan and agency guidelines as needed and with a clinical license through the State of MI.
  • Provide parent education and developmental guidance.
  • Participate in marketing and community outreach activities as needed.
  • Provide programming and mental health training to other professionals.
  • Submit timely and accurate documentation of services, billing data and required paperwork.
  • Responsible for working with team members, supervisor, children, families, and community contacts in a manner that is conducive to the philosophy and mission of the program and agency.
  • Participate in individual supervision, group supervision, agency meetings, and training.
  • Cooperate in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation, or other circumstances as needed.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, local, and agency policies and procedures as it relates to documentation, productivity, training requirements, program guidelines, and confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor or other management.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Infant Mental Health model and relationship-focused intervention knowledge preferred.
  • Experience in providing and receiving reflective supervision preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of infant/child and adult mental health required.
  • Good formal and informal assessment skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate commitment, caring and respect for children and adults from diverse backgrounds who have multiple needs.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and responsibly as a member of a team with colleagues, supervisors, agency staff and collateral contacts.
  • Ability to develop treatment plans and coordinate needed services to fulfill plans utilizing person-centered planning approach.
  • Knowledge of parenting techniques and interventions for young children.
  • Ability to make critical decisions independent of immediate supervision.
  • Knowledge of community resources and provision of case management services.
  • Experience with cross-systems delivery of services.
  • Competence in the delivery of crisis intervention services.
  • Must be computer literate and have some experience with electronic medical records and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to effectively, appropriately, and accurately communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability and willingness to abide by all Starfish Family Services policies and procedures.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed (i.e., some early mornings, or evenings or weekend work is sometimes required).
  • Must have the ability to work with all members of the community regardless of race, age, sex, sexual orientation, and cultural or ethnic background.
  • Must maintain professional and ethical standards.
  • Ability to represent the agency in a professional manner and develop new relationships with other community agencies.
  • Understanding of the Reflective Supervision Model and interest in providing groups to early education employees.
  • Commitment to personal and professional work in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have a valid State of Michigan driver’s license and reliable mode of transportation with automobile insurance
