Description

StarCare Specialty Health System (StarCare) is seeking a full time Registered Dietitian to join its outstanding team at Silver Star supporting the aging and elderly community.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs the assessment of nutritional status and dietary needs of Silver Star participants and development of a plan for the provision of adequate dietary intake to enable participants to achieve their optimal level of independent functioning.
  • Provides necessary consultation and teaching to clients, families, and the health team.
  • Monitors and oversees food services, including congregate meals.
  • Coordinates all phases of nutrition care including nutrition assessment, care planning, monitoring, education, and counseling of participants in a variety of settings.

Essential Duties:

  • Assesses and evaluates participant’s nutritional status, utilizing various lab values and physical assessments, obtaining primary care provider’s orders as required, to ensure adequate dietary intake to enable participant to achieve his/her optimal level of independent functioning.
  • Communicates comprehensive assessment with IDT (Interdisciplinary team) and adjust plan of care of participant according to assessment and needs of the participant.
  • Develop a plan for the provision of adequate dietary intake to enable participant to achieve his/her optimal level of independent functioning.
  • Monitors and oversees food modifications, kitchen, and food service dining area for conformance with prescribed diets and standards, to ensure the cleanliness of food service area at Silver Star and meals meets nutritional standards for program participants.
  • Educates the participant’s family or other caregivers about the need for and preparation of therapeutic diets, as part of the treatment plan, to promote the growth of the nutrition services within the Silver Star program.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current
  • literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
  • Monthly report of all supplements, nutritional interventions and tube feedings.

Schedule:This is a full-time/exempt position scheduled Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm, with flexibility to meet the needs of the department.

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree/master’s in nutrition from an ACEND approved/accredited dietetic program.
  • Completed an accredited supervised practice (internship) through an ACEND accredited dietetic internship.
  • Passed the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Exam. Passed the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) Exam.
  • Licensure as a Dietician/Nutrition Specialist (RD) in Texas.
  • Experience with elderly and frail population.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the principles of human nutrition and diet therapy principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of food service operations, including food preparation, sanitation, and procurement and menu planning principles and practices.
  • Ability to formulate treatment plans and make clinical judgements involving diet therapy, and the ability inspect and evaluate food preparation and service for conformance with standards.
  • Ability to instruct others in individual diet therapy, general nutrition principles, and food selection and preparation.
  • Ability to maintain records, complete assessments, monitor safety measure in the kitchen such as temperatures in refrigerators in kitchen and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Ability to adapt work load sure stressful situations.
  • Skill in communication, including written and oral.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must pass a pre-hire drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Must have a Texas driver's license and be insurable under the Agency's insurance.
