The Technical Writer in detail is in charge of the following responsibilities and activities:
a. Collaborates with the PM/Graphic Designers to define the internal/external planning of the authoring and graphics flows
b. Collects the technical information needed for the authoring of the requested documentation. Such information is gathered from different sources (i.e. technical specifications, technical drawings, 3D models, pneumatic schematics, hydraulic schematics, manufacturer’s system/equipment documentation, physical surveys of procedures/times)
c. Performs the contents authoring of the requested documentation, following the indicated standards, using traditional authoring tools (i.e. InDesign, FrameMaker, Xpress, Word, etc), or authoring platforms (XML-based)
d. Performs the illustrations authoring besides the documentation, following the indicated standards, using a specific application (i.e. Illustrator, Photoshop, AutoCAD, Catia Composer, etc.) and/or manages the illustrations authoring performed by internal Graphic Designers or external graphic supplier
e. If applicable, manages the contents authoring performed by external authoring supplier
f. In case external authoring suppliers are used, verifies that the received contents fulfil the indicated standards (i.e. applying a checklist)
g. In case internal Graphic Designers or external graphic suppliers are used, verifies that the received illustrations fulfil the indicated standards (i.e. applying a checklist)
h. Verifies the documentation produced internally, following the indicated standards (i.e. applying a checklist)
i. In case translation is needed:
- coordinates the flow towards the translators,
- provides technical support to the translators,
- verifies that all the contents are translated,
- inserts the translated contents in the complete document
j. Performs the publication of the requested documentation on the platform (CMS) and/or delivers the produced documents to the Customer, using the indicated tools and following the requested standards
k. Archives the source, half-processed, and produced documents following the indicated rules
l. Reports the progress status of the assigned projects (KPI), following the applicable rules
m. If requested, contributes to the training of junior Technical Writers
n. When requested, participates in the meetings with the Team
o. When needed, interacts with the Customer (i.e. periodical progress meetings, workshop meetings, etc.)
p. When necessary, performs business trips to the Customer’s and/or supplier’s facilities, in order to collect information, to perform surveys in the workshops, and to participate in the meetings
