Your Opportunity

We have numerous projects in and around Texas and the United States that require a Technical Writer to be part of our award-winning team. As an urban planner technical writer, you will be responsible for writing, editing, proofreading, and formatting various documents in the field of urban planning, including comprehensive plans, park master plans, project descriptions, technical documents, presentations, whitepapers, briefs, blogs, and other outward publications.

You will work closely with urban planners, engineers, architects and other stakeholders to ensure that the documents are clear, accurate, consistent and compliant with relevant standards and regulations. You will also conduct research, review data and incorporate feedback to improve the quality and effectiveness of the documents.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Writing, editing, proofreading, and formatting various documents in the field of urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering and geomatics

  • Ensuring that the documents are clear, concise, accurate, and consistent with the project objectives and standards

  • Collaborating with urban planners, landscape architects, engineers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather and verify information

  • Researching and analyzing relevant data, trends, best practices, and case studies in urban planning, landscape architecture, engineering and geomatics

  • Creating and maintaining document templates, style guides, glossaries, and reference materials

  • Reviewing, providing feedback, and updating existing documents as needed

  • Developing and delivering presentations, whitepapers, briefs, blogs, and other outward publications to communicate urban planning concepts and solutions

  • Works within defined project scopes, budgets and schedules.

  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Strong writing skills are a must.

  • Understanding of planning and design concepts.

  • Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.

  • Strong computer skills with an emphasis on Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Adobe Acrobat, BlueBeam Revu, and Adobe Creative Cloud Suite programs.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, working with others in a team setting, communicating directly with the project manager and project leadership and working on multiple projects at the same time.

  • Create easy-to-understand help documentation that conveys the value to the user by blending text with visuals such as images, tables, etc., in a user-friendly voice.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree in English literature, technical writing, communication, or a related field

  • 6 years of technical writing experience

  • Ability to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences

  • Typing speed of 40 WPM
