Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an Environmental Project Manager to support work in the southeastern US including Texas and Louisiana.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience providing permitting (including agency coordination) with the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and state agencies, wetland delineation and/or mitigation, due diligence, project management, and technical service in water/water quality, impact assessments, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), listed species, etc. Types of projects may include but are not limited to oil and gas pipelines, liquid natural gas facilities, solar facilities, wind farms, energy-related projects, residential and commercial permitting, mitigation/conservation banking, water resources, and roadways. In addition, this candidate will be responsible for managing tasks and projects, making successful handoffs to project teams, and sponsoring individual projects. This position may also have supervisory responsibilities.

The successful candidate would ideally have connections and experience in the energy and commercial industries within the Southeastern U.S., preferably Texas and Louisiana. In addition, an understanding of the informational requirements of key permits at the local, state, national, and federal levels (e.g. NEPA, Endangered Species Act (ESA), Clean Water Act (CWA), etc.) is essential. Specific understanding of USACE New Orleans and Galveston District standard operating procedures and Louisiana Department of Natural Resources coordination is desired.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Manage key client relationships
  • Responsible for project setup, project delivery, project controls, business development, client satisfaction and contract management
  • Initiate, prepare, and review proposals
  • Serve as a representative of Stantec at project meetings
  • Prepare project deliverables and project-related correspondence
  • Manage client contracts, including fee estimation, project set-up, and execution of work under senior management supervision
  • Establish and maintain quality assurance plans and safety plans for assigned projects
  • Prepare work plans, assemble project team, delegate tasks, and ensure compliance with scope and timely completion of tasks
  • Mentorship of entry and mid-level staff
  • Supervision of staff

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to manage and provide environmental consulting services to project developers in support of project siting, design, and permit applicationsWorking knowledge of local, state, and federal compliance and environmental permitting
  • Understanding wetland and listed species permitting in Texas and Louisiana including but not limited to the Section 404 CWA/Section 10 Rivers and Harbors Act (RHA), process as implemented by the USACE New Orleans and Galveston Districts; United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Louisiana, and Texas agency species evaluations and coordination
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • Ability to work independently

  • Detail oriented, resourceful
  • Previous experience performing wetland delineations and habitat evaluations for protected species
  • Prior experience managing a project team

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental science, biological resources or a closely related field

Minimum of 10 years experience providing or managing technical services in a professional services setting, preferably in the Southeastern US

5 years’ experience in a client-facing role (including business development and/or client management)

At least two years of supervisory experience

Professional certifications (Professional Wetland Scientist, Project Manager Professional, Professional Wildlife Biologist, etc.) preferred

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Willingness to travel for project work and business development opportunities.
