A Brief Overview
The Respiratory Care Services Manager has 24-hour responsibility for managing Respiratory Care Services to provide effective and efficient patient care. Effectiveness and efficiency are achieved through operationalizing the Medical Center's mission and objectives. The person in this position participates as a member of the management team to assure attainment of the objectives of the Respiratory Care Services Department and as a member of the Medical Center management team. The Manager must be prepared to deal with evolving integrated healthcare delivery systems, technological innovations, and increasingly complex regulatory environment, restructuring of work, and an increased focus on preventive care. The Manager focuses staff efforts on serving patient needs and establishes a working environment that is conducive to continuous learning and quality improvements, and which supports excellence in clinical practice and patient care. This position is responsible for upholding institution philosophy, establishing and maintaining treatment protocols and standards, and developing programs which support a dynamic environment to meet the needs of the patients in an efficient manner. The positions requires demonstrated proficiency in team building/participation, leadership, analytical skills, operational process flow, conflict resolution, problem solving, staff development, and time management.

What you will do

  • Assists leadership in creating and implementing long-range plans for new delivery systems in areas of respiratory care.
  • Assists leadership in defining the scope of emerging respiratory care roles of the future consistent with national trends in health care delivery.
  • Assists with budget requests, prepares required written narrative, and reviews the final proposal with the director.
  • Assists with the creation of Clinical Protocols.
  • Attracts, retains and develops key people who contribute significantly to the growth and success of Respiratory Care Medicine and the Medical Center.
  • Coordinates and implements Respiratory Care Services including: ensures that proper care is rendered by staff and supervisors; takes proper action in instances of suboptimal performance; ensures training of staff; maintains adequate supplies & equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional, and regulatory agency standards, including quality assurance, and licensure requirements.
  • In collaboration with the Director and Assistant Director, develops business, operations, and strategic plans for Respiratory Care Services job classification. They are not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, tasks, and responsibilities required by positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary depending on department or program needs without changing the general nature and scope of the job or level of responsibility entailed.
  • Maintains communication mechanisms with supervisors who are responsible for the department during the absence of the manager.
  • Makes recommendations on wage increases, promotional increases, disciplinary action, and hiring decisions Monitors budget compliance and assures timely corrective action when necessary.
  • Participates in decision-making by active membership on committees and teams including hospital disaster planning.
  • Represents the Medical Center on University, local, and/or state boards, commissions, associations, and committees as requested or approved by the Director.


Education Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.


Experience Qualifications

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience, including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to demonstrate a higher level of critical thinking and judgment.

  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to use a variety of management styles and group processes to assure effective working relationships Ability to use of progressive management skills to facilitate change.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.
  • Knowledge of Job Hazard Analysis in assigned work area(s).
  • Knowledge of protocols regarding protection of human subjects in research, approval of human research through the Research Compliance Office, and control of research projects in the clinical area.
  • Knowledge of the indications, contraindications, and hazards of continuous long-term or short term mechanical ventilation, various respiratory therapy techniques, and anatomy, physiology and pathology related to the respiratory system required.


Licenses and Certifications

  • BLS - Basic Life Support and
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support and
  • RCP - Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner in CA

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $66.46 - $88.05 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
