Standard Supply & Lumber, a Division of US LBM, Is Seeking a Commercial Estimator for Our Grand Rapids, MI Location.

Wage: $25.00 to $27.00 Per Hour

Schedule: Monday to Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM

How you will spend your day as a Commercial Estimator:

Thoroughly review Architectural & Structural drawings, cross referencing with the information in the cost estimating database, creating a comprehensive estimate with an accurate wood framing materials list. Will prepare Commercial Project estimate packages for presentation to the customer by a salesperson. Will communicate daily with both internal and external customers or peers and customers to ensure all critical information is correctly included in the Commercial estimates.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Other duties may be assigned. Willing to be cross trained in other areas of similar work responsibilities.
  • Have understanding of the commercial building process and ability to read a commercial blueprint
  • Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services
  • Reviews data to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists
  • Computes cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work; preparing bids; assisting in the selection of vendors or subcontractors; and determining cost effectiveness
  • Conducts special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions
  • Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues
  • Interfaces with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates
  • Organizes and manages a centralized cost estimating database and a formal process to support cost estimating to ensure historical data is utilized
  • Analyzes completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs and determine the reason for any discrepancies
  • Provides improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures to reduce future discrepancies between estimated and actual costs
  • Identifies cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts

  • Education and/or Experience. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training.
  • Language Skills. The ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions. The ability to communicate well with other employees and/customers.
  • Mathematical Skills. Ability to recognize numbers and perform basic math functions, such as but not limited to, adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing.
  • Reasoning Ability. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
