Stamford Public Schools is Hiring a Remote Remote Learning Specialist

The filling of this position is based upon continued funding in the Board of Education budget.

Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.


General Statement:

The Remote Learning Specialist will serve a caseload of students participating in the SPS Remote Learning Program. Students served may range from grades 9 -12. Course enrollments may be highly diversified, ranging from college prep to honors and A.P. This position will report to the Office of Access & Opportunity.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Run and manage a fully online program for students enrolled in the SPS Remote Learning Program using digital learning platforms (APEX, Edgenuity, VHS)
  • Conduct an orientation for students and families to the SPS remote learning program.
  • Host morning meeting, daily, for all remote students.
  • Ensure ongoing access to digital learning platform(s).
  • Continuously review attendance and academic progress.
  • Provide online office hour sessions for live feedback, discussion, and support.
  • Support students with executive functioning, time management, and prioritization.
  • Assist students with problem solving.
  • Communicate with School Counselors for added support, as needed.
  • Serve as liaison between school and families to maximize family engagement.
  • Schedule individual check-ins with students who need supplemental, differentiated support and engagement.
  • Participate in select live and in-person lessons and teacher office hours to support students in real time, as needed.
  • Refer students to resources to support learning, preparation for assessments, and access to digital learning platform(s).
  • Grade and assess assignments specific to Remote Learning Specialist’s endorsement codes as needed.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
Works in standard office/classroom and school building environments with some additional responsibilities to meet the needs of the remote students through a range of virtual platforms. Students will primarily be served remotely, however, there may be the need to meet with students and families in-person as well as hold in-person academic support sessions, such as writing workshops, math tutoring, etc.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Commitment to creating schools that provide an education that cultivates productive habits of mind, body, and heart in every student
  • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote, Screencastify); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Google Meet, Zoom);
  • Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, PowerSchool); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position
  • Proficient in utilizing Google Classroom or other digital classroom platforms
  • Understands how to utilize multiple communication platforms such as email (Outlook and Gmail), Remind, Lions Bridge

Qualifications:
  • Connecticut Educator Certification endorsed for Grades 9-12 (pending confirmation from the CSDE)
    • Must be endorsed for the content area and grades for any direct instruction and/or grading being completed
  • Excellent organizational and management skills
  • Superior communication skills (oral and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills related to both students and colleagues
Union:
Stamford Education Association (SEA)

Work Day:
Length will be equivalent to contractual work day hours, however, start and end times will be mutually agreed upon between the Remote Learning Specialist and the Access and Opportunity Department Administrators.

Work Year:
186 days, plus up to 20 additional days, as needed, paid at the per diem rate, submitted via voucher.

Salary:
As per SEA Contract
