    Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.
    General Statement:
    The Stamford Public Schools Social Worker on Special Assignment (SWOSA) for Crisis Response provides mental health crisis assessment, intervention and response, stabilization, consultation, clinical and case management services for children in our schools. The SWOSA for Crisis Response utilizes a team approach fostering positive and collaborative working relationships with students, families, school teams and community providers and facilitates the coordination of post-crisis care for identified student needs when indicated.
    Major Responsibilities:
    • Conducts crisis screenings and evaluations in conjunction with building based staff.
    • Provides crisis stabilization support (e.g., counseling, coordination, consultation) for up to 6 weeks.
    • Develops and documents clear clinical formulations, crisis and treatment plans that are individualized and measurable, developed in collaboration with the student/family and school team.
    • Triages clinical emergencies and implements program specific safety and consultation protocols.
    • Demonstrates knowledge, experience and application of culturally sensitive and developmentally appropriate frameworks and practices relevant to crisis intervention with children and families.
    • Provides support to administrators in responding to “Extreme Risk” Securly alerts or similar crises during and outside of school hours by coordinating a response with administrators, parents and community organizations as necessary
    • Utilizes best practices and evidenced based models, when indicated, and adheres to model and program expectations and protocols.
    • Works in collaboration with EMPS (211).
    • Provides clinically indicated referrals and facilitates coordination of care for identified service needs, in a timely manner.
    • Plans and delivers professional development and training to identified staff on mental health crisis response and management among other related topics.
    • Communicates in a professional and effective manner with students, families and all internal and external providers.
    • Participates in community based meetings and conference calls with emergency departments, inpatient units, congregate care providers, other EMPS providers and the Department of Children and Families as needed, to assist in care planning and to address system issues which may impact increased emergency department and inpatient unit utilization of high needs youth.
    • Documents all student related information in compliance with district policies.
    • Provides supplemental social work services at the assigned school where the position resides.

    • Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, PowerSchool); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
    Qualifications:
    • CT CSDE educator certification endorsed for School Social Worker (071), required.
    • Master’s degree in Social Work, required.
    • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license in Connecticut, or LCSW in CT within 6 months of assuming position, required.
    • Minimum 5 years experience working in the Stamford school district, preferred.
    • Experience with crisis assessment and intervention in schools.
    • Bi-Lingual Spanish speaker, preferred.
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Stamford Board of Education may find appropriate.

    Term:
    This position will be reviewed annually, and pending funding, will continue for a two (2) year term.
    Work Year:
    186 days, plus up to 10 additional days, as needed for weekend and/or evening responses, paid at the per diem rate. Additional days beyond the 196, as needed and preapproved by the Associate Superintendent for Intervention and Student Support, will be paid at the per diem rate.
