Stairways Behavioral Health is Hiring a Rehabilitation Technician Near Erie, PA

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position isresponsible for assisting staff in providing the necessary support andinformation needed to implement each clients' treatment plan. The incumbent also assists clients with dailyactivities, medication monitoring, management of daily tasks and providingtransportation when needed. Crisismanagement and support is also an important function of this position.

Clinical Knowledge & Skill - Utilizes experience, up-to-date knowledge of mental health interventions and recovery-oriented approaches to provide sound clinical services; demonstrates ability to build rapport and show positive regard for clients; follows treatment plan and focuses on empowerment while supporting and/or educating clients to achieve their personal goals; able to model and teach clients how to become active participants in recovery process.
  2. Identification of Client Needs ? Demonstrates ability to conduct thorough screening

withclients to identify their interests, needs, and skills; provides relevant inputto

RehabCoordinators and Therapists in order to assist in the development of the

treatmentplan and daily activity schedule.

  1. Facilitation of Skill Building Activities ? Demonstrates ability to effectively engage

clientsin individual and group skills building activities; demonstrates ability to

 effectively develop, plan and facilitate skills building groups;demonstrates

 understanding of learning differences by tailoring skills buildingsessions to meet

 client-specific needs.

  1. Medication Monitoring - Demonstrate ability to monitor medication according to

established procedures; maintainserror-free performance in MAR documentation;

provide medication education to clientsas appropriate; successfully completes all

required medication certificationtraining.

  1. Program Expectations ? Provides consistent, reliable coverage to ensure safe and

effective operation of the program; workscollaboratively with program staff to

complete all assigned tasks.

Documentation- Demonstrates effective management of documentation responsibilities by maintaining accurate records of all interactions with clients, other providers, vendors and representatives from external organizations; adheres to documentation guidelines as established by regulatory bodies and internal policies.
  2. Crisis Management - Demonstrates ability to recognize and manage client crisis

situations effectively; knows how toaccess crisis services utilizing supervisory

guidance as needed; respondsprofessionally and effectively to crises as they present

in the unit, in the community, or on thetelephone.

POPULATION SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  1. Uses age appropriate and recovery focused language when speaking and interacting with adults and seniors with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders and/or involvement with the criminal justice system.
  2. Demonstrates necessary knowledge of laws relating to the mandated reporting of suspected child abuse and exploitation of adults and seniors with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders and/or involvement with the criminal justice system.
  3. Demonstrates an understanding of community resources for adults and seniors with mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance abuse disorders and/or involvement with the criminal justice system as related to physical, cognitive, psychosocial, educational and vocational needs of the population.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Scale 1 - High school diploma or equivalent, demonstrated written and verbal skills,

knowledgeof practical self-care skills, ability to deal effectively with persons withmental illness, current PA drivers license and access to a vehicle during workhours.

  1.  Scale 2 - Bachelors Degree in a related field; Or Associates degree in a related field with two years full time (or equivalent) related experience; Or High school diploma (or equivalent) with eighteen months full time experience as a Rehabilitation Technician One (Scale 1) within the agency; Or A high school diploma (or equivalent) and three years of related full time (or equivalent) experience from outside the agency.
  2. Scale 3 - Bachelors degree in a related field and at least twelve months experience as a full time Rehabilitation Technician One and/or Rehabilitation Technician Two within the agency; Or An Associated degree with at least three years full time direct care experience within the agency; Or A high school diploma with at least 48 months experience as a Rehabilitation Technician One and/or Rehabilitation Technician Two within the agency; or A Bachelor's degree in a related field with eighteen months of full time (or equivalent) experience from outside the agency; Or Associates degree in a related field with at least thirty months of related experience from outside the agency.
  3. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, organizational skills, knowledge of practical self-care skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  4. Ability to effectively work with persons with mental illness and/or developmental disabilities and implement treatment plans for their program participation.
  5. Act 33/34/31 and FBI Clearances.
  6. Valid driver's license with access to a vehicle during scheduled work hours.

TRAININGREQUIREMENTS:

All staff arerequired to participate in ongoing mandatory training while employed. Training requirements are detailed in theTraining Matrix which is maintained by the Professional DevelopmentDepartment. Along with their supervisor,each staff person is responsible for reviewing the Training Matrix to determineindividual training requirements and completing those requirements in a timelymanner.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Minimal, physicalexertion required. Assisting clients with learning daily living skills mayinclude periodic light lifting, bending, pushing, etc. Some job duties consist of sedentary officework and verbal communication with co-workers and clients. Care should be takento avoid repetitive motion injuries such as those experienced with extendedcomputer keyboard use. Local travelrequires the operation of an automobile.

EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able towork sometimes under stressful situations brought on by deadlines. Must be ableto work in an environment in which contact with persons with mental illness ormental retardation is a certainty. The nature of this position may bring theincumbent in contact with persons with communicable diseases, or put theincumbent in situations where communicable diseases are present.

PROBATION EXPECTATIONS:

The first 975 hoursof employment is a formal probationary period. This is a time in which theimmediate supervisor and other administrators make a determination as towhether the newly hired employee is appropriate for this position.Appropriateness is based on job skill, job knowledge, demeanor, ability to workas a team member, and output.

CUSTOMERS SERVED:

Incumbents in thisposition should consider the following as "customers": Consumers of servicesin the mental health programs; program supervisors; outside vendors, SBH administration, SBHBoard Of Directors and SBH fundingsources.

ON THE JOB HAZARDS:

This position willrequire travel by motor vehicle. All dangers inherent in driving or riding in amotor vehicle are present. Exposure to commercial cleaning agents is likely.MSDS training is required. The nature of this position may cause contact withindividuals who are HIV positive, have hepatitis or other communicablediseases. Training in universal precautions is required. Exposure to second hand smoke is likely.

HEALTH ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS:

A pre-employmentphysical check-up is required. Then, employee physical checkups are requiredevery two years.
