Position: Custodian
Servicing St. Lucie Schools.
Schools in Fort Pierce and Port St Lucie.
Summary:
The custodian provides services as an employee of STAFFEZ as a part of the district’s team to maintain a clean and safe learning/working environment.
Essential Job Functions (note this is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position):
- To help provide proper environment for instruction including but not limited to temperature, ventilation, cleanliness and safety.
- Carry out established system wide procedures and standards of performance.
- Clean and maintain all work areas as defined by Supervisor.
- Timely report all deficiencies to Supervisor.
- To remain on school site during work hours.
- Move furniture and equipment as directed by Supervisor.
- Assume responsibility for securing doors and windows in assigned work areas.
- To assume responsibility for turning off lights, equipment and thermostats in assigned areas.
- Perform any and all other duties that may be assigned by the Supervisor or the school Principal.
- Perform assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
- Perform assigned tasks with a high standard of quality.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Supervisor.
- Represent the District and STAFFEZ in a professional manner by performing all job functions at a satisfactory or above level.
- Interact with co-workers, administration, students, parents, and the community in a positive, supportive, and cooperative ways.
- Performs other related duties, including special projects, as required or requested, consistent with reasonable expectations for the contracted position.
Qualifications:
- High school/trade school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Supervisor, staff and others. Perform work duties satisfactorily in work areas. Use cleaning agents properly, in accordance with label, application mixture and method of use. Effectively use and maintain assigned equipment and supplies.
- Experience in maintenance and plant operation; security; environmental controls; building and equipment repairs; cleaning and other related work areas desired.
- Willingness to work overtime as required; respond to emergency situations; continue self development in work related programs; maintain a home or cell phone.
- Is physically capable of performing duties as determined by physical examination by Board approved physician.
- Ability to perform the functions of the position.
- Completion of the required Global Compliance Network online training modules.
- Demonstrated record of good attendance and punctuality.
- Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication.
- Must meet criminal history background requirements (requires FBI Fingerprint and SOARS clearance)
Physical Requirements:
Physical Demand Class: Heavy (H) - Frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 25-50 pounds. Infrequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing 51-100 pounds. Continuous standing and/or walking is required to carry out duties. Occasional walking at a fast pace and/or running may he required.
For the Position of: CUSTODIAN/SITE MAINTENANCE WORKER.
PDC Test Level: MEDIUM.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the functions of this job. Candidates will be required to successfully complete the following job specific tests prior to being recommended to the School Board for hire.
Job Specific Task I
Task Simulated: Lifting to dispose of full garbage bag
Equipment Used: Bag weighted to 50 lbs., garbage can
Description of Task Simulation 1: Candidate will demonstrate the ability to lift the 50 lb. bag from a 38-in height garbage by grabbing it at hand-hold position of their choice to remove it from the can (including use of tipping the can if necessary) to the floor to then return the bag to the starting point. This is to be done for one repetition.
Job Specific Test II
Task Simulated: Cleaning
Equipment used: broom/mop handle
Description of Task Simulation 2: While holding one end of the handle, candidate will demonstrate ability to reach overhead to their arm’s length for 1-minute to simulate cleaning overhead. Candidate will then transition to kneel, squat, or stoop to have handle at floor level for 1-minute to again simulate cleaning under desk or table. This is to be done for 1 repetition.
Job Specific Task III
Task Simulated: Climbing
Equipment used: Stepladder
Description of Task Simulation 3: Using available handholds, the candidate will demonstrate ability to climb up/down to the 3rd or 4th rung and repeat until total of 12 rungs are completed.
Job Specific Test IV
Task Simulated: Stair climbing
Equipment Used: 8-inch step
Description of Task Simulation 4: Using an 8-inch step, candidate will demonstrate ability to climb up/down 20 steps. If the candidate completes at least 20 steps safely during the 3-minute step test, mark this task as Completed Acceptably.
