PRODUCE MANAGER

Your role as Produce Manager is to run a full-size produce department at our locally owned natural foods store. You will purchase all products, with an emphasis on local and organic items while keeping up to date with volatile pricing. You will hire, train, and supervise staff as needed. Additionally, you will supervise and lead the produce crew in breaking down deliveries, moving back stock to the floor and merchandising new products, and stocking shelves. You will work closely with store owners and leadership in organizing, developing promotional displays and ad materials, and maintaining the prep room. You will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient service to customers and fellow employees.

DUTIES:

  • Buying, merchandising, and handling organic and conventional produce
  • Source fresh produce highlighting local, organic, and seasonal items
  • Make sure customers are taken care of, and the department looks great at all times. Surprise and delight us with consistency.
  • Seek out new and exciting produce-related products and create and negotiate price bids.
  • Assume primary responsibility for ordering department-specific products.
  • Work with retail to create displays and work with merchandising crew on ideas for displays, signage, and cross-marketing to drive store sales.
  • Maintaining a clean, well-stocked, and well-merchandised department including proper signage and meeting all regulations.
  • Responsible for achieving and exceeding margin and sales targets.
  • Maintain accurate purchase journals and process invoices and credits.
  • Control spoilage, and support the store in conducting inventories.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including Weights and Measures, health and sanitation, and adhere to safe work practices.
  • Administrate the operation and sanitization of all equipment in a safe and proper manner.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Working knowledge of buying, pricing systems, and other applicable programs for purchasing.
  • Minimum of one year of experience buying produce and managing in a retail environment.
  • Analytical ability and proficiency in margin calculations and inventory management.
  • Ability to clearly communicate with customers, vendors, and staff.
  • Strong demonstrated merchandising skills and department product knowledge.
  • Proactive in all aspects of the job.
  • Proficiency with basic computer skills including email and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must be able to read, speak, and write in English fluently. A basic knowledge of Spanish would be helpful.
  • Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department.
