DIRECTOR OF CONTROLS, TECHNICAL OPERATIONS

THE POSITION:
STACK is looking for a Director of Controls, Technical Operations (DCTO) to support all data centers across the portfolio. As a leader in STACK’s Critical Operations team, the Director of Controls is responsible for developing and supporting critical Controls and Monitoring programs that drive productivity and efficiency in field operations (effectively known at STACK as the “runbook”). The DCTO will also be focused on implementation of programs related to Safety, Team, Availability, Communication, and Knowledge. The Director of Controls, Technical Operations, will report to the Sr. Director of Technical Operations. Candidate will be a successful collaborator with a proven track record of success. 
  • Lead and coach the Technical Operations Building Management Team (TechOps BMS) as STACK’s center of excellence for BMS and EPMS; critical controls and monitoring training; and technical policies and processes Collaborate with the leadership team to identify opportunities to improve our Controls and Monitoring program; Develop and implement agreed changes.
  • Champion a culture that’s safety-focused, candid, and transparent.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of mechanical and electrical sequence of operations across the portfolio.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of BMS programing across the portfolio.
  • Drive consistency of BMS programming across the portfolio.
  • Partner with monitoring and control vendors, data center critical operations teams, and STACK’s IT department to deliver Operations Department projects.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and is part of the emergency response team for BMS/Controls related events.
  • Partner with STACK Development Team and general contractors to verify turnover package and coordinate training for end users of monitoring and control systems.
  • Ability to communicate to engineering and non-engineering teams throughout the STACK organization.
  • Drive definition, development, and implementation of maintenance, quality control, and safety process changes to improve critical operations productivity and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrate technical knowledge and experience in electrical and mechanical support systems, telecom, and cabling to include power distribution systems, emergency power, UPS systems, HVAC, and fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Subject matter expert on critical facilities maintenance policies, procedures, safety, training, and data center critical functions.
  • Develop and implement new maintenance standards, as well as work to improve existing standards to support site operations.
  • Ensure that MOP’s, SOP’s, and EOP’s are developed, reviewed and audited through all stages of the maintenance process for electrical, mechanical, communications, and safety support equipment.
  • Lead a quality assessment program that documents compliance with and opportunities to improve adherence to policies and processes.
  • Mentor and provide training for personnel in the planning, scheduling and completion of preventative, corrective, and emergency maintenance.
  • Implementation of training for site personnel on all aspects of individual job duties.
  • Lead root cause analysis process and deep dive into abnormal occurrences within the data center.
  • Provide user support and training for field operations tools and processes.
  • Participate in departmental leadership meetings.
  • Gather, document, and share best practices. Act as a change agent.
THE DETAILS:
  • Location: Portland, SVY, DFW, Chicago, or NVA
  • Travel: Up to 20%
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background screening.
MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a data center or other related mission critical operations role.
  • Tridium Niagara 4 Certification.
  • Multiple vendor certifications for Monitoring and Controls preferred.
  • Knowledge of data center (hyper scale, enterprise, and colocation), and telecommunications industries.
  • Experience working with various Microsoft office applications and other database housing software.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high stress, fast paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Experience developing executive level presentations.
  • Ability to develop safety, maintenance, quality control, and service delivery tools.
  • Deliver effective training for a critical operations group.
