SUMMARY

The Accounting Associate II will operate under the direct supervision of the Controller as the primary finance partner to SVDP’s Veteran Housing Services team for the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. This position is responsible for the timely and accurate accounting of rental and financial assistance for participants of the SSVF program; and includes communication with clients, landlords, program staff, and funders to ensure timely and accurate payments and reporting of all financial activity to grant funders as well as internal stakeholders.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Maintains accurate records and trackers for all rental and financial assistance.
  • Prepares and submits billings to funders for all SSVF grants and ensures timely payments.
  • Assists Housing Coordinator in obtaining required housing documentation from landlords (lease, lead certification, property registration, W9, etc.)
  • Reviews financial statements for reasonable content and form
  • Assists Finance and Grants departments’ leadership with pre-award budget development and performs post-award budget revision reporting for grants.
  • Responsible for budgetary control and post award compliance with federal, state, local, and funder regulations.
  • Responsible for processing client-related accounts payable.
  • Responsible for the invoicing and reconciliation processes related to drawdowns from funding agencies.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of grant activity including cost overruns, cost sharing, and unallowable administrative expenses.
  • Reconciles and prepares monthly and quarterly financial grant reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting procedures.
  • Prepares and maintains reimbursement expenditure reports for grants and reconciles monthly grant reports to funds received.
  • Attends recurring review meetings with the Finance and SSVF program teams.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of SSVF grants and ensure compliance with grant guidelines and allowable costs.
  • Communicate with staff and external stakeholders to provide financial and accounting information and support as needed.

SECONDARY DUTIES

  • Maintain knowledge of internal control requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including project and committee work.
  • Assists with other Finance Department functions.
  • Flexibility to take on new tasks as departmental needs evolve.
  • Prepares special reports, documents, and records, as needed.
  • Ensure that inquiries are responded to in a professional manner within one business day. Assist in researching any problems and make appropriate adjustments/corrections to successfully resolve issues. Monitor that follow-up contacts are being made at least every 48 hours until the issue is resolved.
  • Maintain all accounting and permanent files related to rental and financial assistance.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Maintain a neat and organized work area including access to essential information.
  • Attend all staff meetings and other meetings as directed.
  • Support a welcoming and positive environment.

  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma and 4 years of accounting/finance experience, required.
  • Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 2 years of experience, or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with no experience will be considered.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting functions.
  • Solid computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to work with finance databases and software.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills for communications with landlords, staff, and funders.
  • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills to be able to efficiently prioritize work and meet identified deadlines.
  • Ability to work under pressure, keep all work current and accurate, and respond to identified department deadlines with a sense of urgency.
  • Experience in a professional office environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Consistently demonstrate a team player attitude.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $58,000.00 per year
