St. Thomas Aquinas High & Middle School is Hiring a Middle School Dean of Students Near Louisville, OH

The Dean of Students is an advocate for a Christ-centered, collaborative school climate. The Dean of Students promotes the safety and welfare of each student and facilitates a productive and orderly environment. The Dean of Students is a role model for and an advisor to each member of the student body and supports administration and faculty in the formation, academic achievement, and formation of each student.

Performance Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Administrative Team including actively, collaboratively, and meaningfully participating in regular meetings.
  • Address students’ discipline problems, administer consequences, and facilitate appropriate change in behavior.
  • Write and implement individual student behavior contracts.
  • Create proactive and positive methods for developing appropriate student behavior for review and approval by the principal and administrative team.
  • Work with the building principal and counseling department in making recommendations for student discipline due to academic concerns.
  • Shape/communicate recommendations for all levels of student discipline related to standards for appropriate behaviors.
  • Supervise and manage all school safety, including all fire drills, tornado drills, and safety drills, as well as communicate with all staff in preparation and follow-up for such procedures.
  • Monitor student attendance and oversee all the appropriate measures related to improving attendance. Oversee compliance with all attendance policies in coordination with the appropriate administrative assistant(s).
  • Assign lockers to students before the school year and throughout the school year as needed.
  • Provide overall supervision for student activities, assisting advisors and directors with such functions as chaperones for dances, and security personnel for games and other activities.
  • Directly supervise activities, and maintain a visible presence at activities, especially Homecoming, Prom, etc.
  • Communicate directly with individual parents and groups of parents as needed.
  • Assist as needed with the committee in preparation for Baccalaureate and Graduation programs.
  • Directly supervise Baccalaureate and Graduation and participate in the commencement program itself.
  • Provide direct supervision of the student section at football, Volleyball, and basketball games.
  • Be visible and available to students and faculty before school, during lunch periods, in the hallways, locker rooms, workout facilities, and parking lot.
  • Work with the building principal on the implementation and changes to schools’ rules and policies for students.
  • Directly supervise the students during their lunch periods.
  • Work with faculty and staff to promote positive relations and communication between administration, parents, and staff.
  • Perform all other duties or tasks as assigned.

Qualifications for this position:

  • Experience working with a diverse student body.
  • Embrace the Catholic faith and values.
  • Administrative experience preferred.
  • Master's degree preferred or bachelor's degree with experience.
  • VIRTUS certification (will provide) and FBI/BCI background check.
  • Education administration: 1 year (Preferred)
