ST Public Branding is Hiring a Business Analyst-Business Intelligence (Term-Limited) Near Seattle, WA

Salary range is $60k to $140k, with a midpoint of $95k. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint, however, we may go slightly higher based on experience, internal equity and market.

This is a Term-limited position with an anticipated assignment of 2 years 

GENERAL PURPOSE: 
The Business Intelligence Analyst supports implementation of the agency’s business intelligence program. The position includes specialized technical, administrative, collaboration, and communication skills, as well as general project management knowledge. This position serves as a liaison between Sound Transit’s Business Intelligence Program and Operations Divisions as well as Sound Transit Agency Departments and business partners, as required. This position will perform work under direction of the Manager for Business Intelligence. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. 

  • Creates and maintains Business Intelligence Reports and performs analysis to build the agency Business Intelligence program focusing on modal statistics (ridership, on time performance, trip delivery etc.). This includes interviewing business units, identifying requirements, doing user testing, ensuring data accuracy and making sure the reports are providing the necessary information in a way that can be easily digested by folks with less data experience. Manages the complete life cycle of modal data processes from data collection to decision making. 
  • Provides support and data insights to modal business units regarding trends and impacts of the data analysis. 
  • Documents processes for business intelligence reports, data source mapping and action items that result from review of the business intelligence reports. 
  • Identifies useful data sources throughout the agency. Gathers and documents data and data processes for use in performance management 
  • Follows data governance expectations as defined by the agency data strategy. 
  • Collaborates and communicates with agency employees in the mode specific divisions and establishes and maintains productive relationship with partner agencies to facilitate data sharing between partner agencies. 
  • Champions and models Sound Transit's core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Business or Public Administration, or related field and a minimum of four years related business process analysis and improvement experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Required Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Basic PowerBI report building skills including connecting data sets, selecting appropriate visuals, and identifying useful information to present. 
  • Willingness to learn and understand principles and practices of transit operations. 
  • Computer and software skills associated with developing and maintaining business intelligence solutions (PowerBI, Tableau, etc) to deliver accurate, consistent, and timely performance data. 
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and statistical databases. 
  • Utilizing personal computer software programs including SharePoint, Microsoft Office and Visio. 
  • Skill in relational databases, automated systems, data modules, table relationships, and views 
  • Ability to develop data reporting tools and reports 
  • Ability to conduct transit operational research and analysis. 
  • Ability to prepare and analyze comprehensive reports. 
  • Sound judgment, high level of confidentiality and the ability to escalate issues when necessary. 
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with personnel across the agency and with partner agencies 
  • Strong attention to detail. 
  • Independent judgment, personal initiative and resourcefulness.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills. 

Physical Demands / Work Environment: 

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
