Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): 

To assist with the costumes for the Theater and Dance programs.

Workers in the costume shop use a variety of sewing techniques and tools (hand sewing, domestic sewing machines, industrial sewing machines, sergers, industrial irons) to create and alter costumes for performance.

Tier 1: First year and beginning workers. Prior sewing experience preferred, but not required. Will be operating sewing machines and sergers.

Tier 2: Returning workers with at least one year experience. Able to construct garments and alter clothes with supervision.

Tier 3: Returning workers with at least two years experience. Able to construct garments and alter clothes with minimal supervision. Can provide instruction and supervision to fellow workers as needed. Potential for some beginning pattern-making.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

Assist in construction of all costume elements for the Theater and CompanyDance productions.

- Maintain and launder costumes during the run of the performances

- Assist in maintaining costume stock

- Assist in general shop upkeep

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

- Some knowledge of costume construction preferred.

- Some knowledge of hand and machine sewing techniques preferred; a desire to learn these skills required.
