About Youth and Education

Established in 1994, St Nicks Alliance’s Youth and Education serves more than 6,000 North Brooklyn youth each year. Through a wide-range of programs, children and youth are empowered to successfully advance through the stages of education and into young adulthood with the core competencies to thrive. In partnership with schools, families and community, St. Nicks Alliance’s holistic approach to transformation combines youth development, academic enrichment, health and wellness, arts learning and post-secondary readiness. St. Nicks Alliance’s School Success Model introduces transformational practices to our afterschool centers with the goal of fostering long-term school success through literacy immersion, socioemotional and behavioral supports.

About the Opportunity

Youth and Education seeks to expand our roster of Teaching Artists and to work at our afterschool programs serving Elementary, Middle and High Schools, in addition to Beacon and Cornerstone Community Center models. We are seeking instructors to provide Dance classes to after-school, in-school, and out-of-school (community) programs for students aged pre-K through high school.

The Instructors will be responsible for designing and delivering curricula while ensuring the safety and engagement of youth. We are seeking someone with professional Culinary experience that also possesses hands-on experience working with young people in an instructional setting. The position requires a passionate, creative, energetic, team-building leader committed to providing the highest quality of programming for youth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver curricula for Culinary enrichment activities
  • Lead coking activities that are engaging and age-appropriate
  • Actively monitor and engage participants during all program activities, including meals, transitions, field trips, clubs, activities, recreation and dismissal
  • Plan and facilitate purposeful and engaging activities and theme-based projects catered to the age, stage and interests of participants
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants by demonstrating professional language and behavior
  • Develop positive, caring relationships with young people and their families
  • Utilize youth development principles to enhance program quality and support growth in young people
  • Collaborate with co-workers and program supervisors around effective program operations; uphold all safety standards and procedures
  • Actively participate in training and professional development to continuously improve on quality

Partnership/Relationship Development

  • Serve as a positive role model for participants by demonstrating professional language and behavior
  • Develop positive, caring relationships with young people and their families
  • Utilize youth development principles to enhance program quality and support growth in young people
  • Collaborate with co-workers and program supervisors around effective program operations; uphold all safety standards and procedures

Professional Development

  • Actively participate in training and professional development to continuously improve on quality

Administration

  • Assist with ordering materials and supplies

Requirements

  • Must hold an Undergraduate degree.
  • At least one year experience working with children and teens in afterschool settings HIGHLY preferred
  • A sound understanding of English including reading, writing and speaking; bilingual abilities a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate with other team members
  • A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities, observation, coaching, and feedback
  • After School Availability between 2pm-6pm, approximately 15-20 hours a week; Monday- Friday; some holidays and holiday weeks.
  • Must be available to work from 2pm-6pm
  • Comply with School Age Child Care (SACC) requirements; including background check and medical clearances.
  • Must be empathic, patient, understanding, and a good listener

You will also be required to get fingerprinted by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the New York City Department of Education.

Teaching Artists are paid $30-50 per hour depending on experience, with room for growth.
