GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director of Sales and Customer Experience is highly engaged with all store staff within the assigned region through frequent visits, providing an opportunity for a caring, enjoyable and spiritual work environment. This position plays an integral role in implementing processes and business development strategies, working to achieve the overall sales and revenue objectives within that region of the St. Matthew’s House Thrift Operation.

The Assistant Director of Sales and Customer Experience owns the budgets of the stores within assigned region and is accountable for the operational performance and management of the stores within assigned region, including people development, sales and sales building programs, service, execution of company-wide programs and initiatives, margin and expense control, and shrink and asset management.

The Assistant Director of Sales and Customer Experience is enthusiastic, a sales champion, a people-focused coach with the ability to nurture our culture. The Assistant Director of Sales and Customer Experience partners with all of the St. Matthew’s House Retail Operations Leadership to fulfill the Mission, Vision and Core Values of St. Matthew’s House. 

This position trains staff on how to drive sales to the fullest potential through continued development of product knowledge, customer service standards, and visual presentation. 

ESSENTIAL TASKS:

  • Annual sales growth in the assigned region that meets or exceeds company targets and industry standards.
  • Protection of company assets through loss prevention and expense efficiencies
  • Consistent and effective communication of St. Matthew’s House priorities to assigned regional staff.
  • Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with peers and managers outside the assigned region.
  • Provide consistent and thorough input to the Director of Retail Operations, providing operational guidance and insights necessary to facilitate the business decision process.
  • Interpret operational data, variance analysis, and key business metrics to identify trends and make recommendations based on risks and opportunities.
  • Present KPI and other periodic operational data reports containing regional results and analytical insights to executive-level audiences.
  • Provide ad hoc analysis of metrics and store operations data to support business decisions.
  • Ensure all daily, weekly, and monthly operations reporting are timely and accurate.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • An independent deductive thinker who is fluid with numbers and metrics in their thinking and who can translate the numbers into clear direction for store and warehouse management.
  • Strong analytics ability with a track record of delivering results. 
  • Financial analysis skills sufficient to interpret operating statements and other financial reporting data, manage budgets, and control inventory
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The proven ability to prepare and present executive level presentations and insights.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, volunteers, and employees.
  • Advanced MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills required.
  • Must be willing to occasionally work non-standard work schedules Including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours due to business needs. Traveling to multiple location sites will be required. 

Requirements

Education: Bachelor Degree required or 8-10 years relevant work experience will be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree

Experience: 3 years’ experience as a multi-unit manager or five years as a GM in a big box retailer preferred. 

Physical Demand: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. The employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and hear or talk. The employee is frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move 75 pounds. 

Travel: Required to maintain primary auto insurance at minimum liability limits of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury, $100,000 property damage, or $300,000 combined single limit.
