St Mary University is Hiring a Coordinator, Graduate Student Success (PPOHA-BRAVO) - Grant Funded Near San Antonio, TX

This position provides support for grant-based objectives for the Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans, BRAVO grant. Responsibilities include strengthening relationships with community partners and facilitating graduate student participation in internships and apprenticeships.

The position is a 12-month, full-time position that follows the staff schedule. This position is funded in whole by an external grant and is subject to immediate termination if the grant funding ceases. No employee who is in such a position may file a grievance over the termination of the position. While it is possible that grant funding may be renewed, the current funding for this position ends on September 30, 2028.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Promotes and implements Graduate Student Appreciation Week
  • Enhances and strengthens the CANVAS portals that provide information about on-campus and off-campus resources
  • Creates and maintains the online graduate student orientation program
  • Provides in-person orientation for graduate students
  • Participates in graduate program information days at area universities
  • Develops and conducts graduate school application workshops for postbaccalaureate students
  • Maintains access to the Graduate Center of Excellence
  • Establishes and serves as Advisor for the Graduate Student Association
  • Maintains a graduate student Helpline and forwards requests as appropriate
  • Meets with Graduate Program Directors to ascertain needed assistance
  • Works with Resident Life office to create and provide graduate student events and administer graduate student travel
  • Hires and manages graduate student tutors and graduate student peer mentors/coaches
  • Meets regularly with Project Management Team, including Graduate Career Coach, and be point of contact with grant director and project coordinator
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • Must have minimum three (3) years of experience in higher education to include: admissions, student affairs, advising or related areas; Experience in college student mentoring, coaching, tutoring, supplemental instruction, and working with students with academic challenges is preferred.
  • Experience in project management, data compilation, analysis and reportingpreferred
  • Must clear and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must have a valid driver's license, motor vehicle liability insurance, and personal injury insurance, or have a self-reliant source of transportation to conduct business on a daily basis
  • Must have the ability to demonstrate intermediate skills in MS Office and Office 365 (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook and PowerPoint) including experience with virtual platforms such as Zoom, and applicable student activity portal experience (Ellucian Ethos, Ellucian Banner)
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong public relations, outreach and presentation skills, and customer service skills with an ability to implement diplomacy and discretion at all times; ability to work effectively with high school students, parents, school counselors, teachers, faculty and staff.
  • Must have high ethical standards and a strong sense of confidentiality; ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines; thrive in a complex work environment; display solid problem solving and interpersonal skills; work well independently and as part of a team; professional demeanor, appearance and strong work ethic required
  • Must have ability to demonstrate attention to detail and be able to organize workflow, coordinate activities, balance simultaneous projects without loss of efficiency in a multi-tasked environment, and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish with the ability to understand and to make one's self understood to Spanish speaking individuals)
  • Ability to develop new ideas, be creative and initiate projects or programs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Working conditions are in an office environment and university campus setting. Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
  • While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
