St Mary's School for the Deaf is Hiring a Teacher Visually Impared Near Buffalo, NY
(1) Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in Deaf Education Or Special Education; AND Teacher of the Visually Impaired (2) NYS certification in Teacher of the Visually Impaired; preference given to candidates also certified in Orientation and Mobility. (3) NYS certification in at least one other area or subject; AND Teacher of the Visually Impaired (4) The ability to successfully complete a Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) at the proficiency level defined for each job position as determined by SMSD. NOTE: The School may also require employees in this classification to complete successful training in behavior management programs including but not limited to TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) which will be provided by St. Mary's School for the Deaf. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide TVI services in individual or group settings as prescribed per IEPs.
Provide orientation and mobility training as prescribed per IEPs.
Maintain records and contacts for local and national Deaf Blind organizations.
Provide intervener training and ongoing technical support to paraprofessionals.
Plans and prepares lessons and other instructional materials following curriculum guidelines;
Instructs students in various subjects using American Sign Language and English
Confers with parents, testing specialists, and other administrators to develop individual educational plans for students;
Provide technical support in Deaf-blindness to families and classrooms.
Provide support for student modifications including Braille translations when needed.
Meets and confers with parents and with supervisor to discuss students' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements;
Assists in selecting appropriate textbooks and learning materials;
Participates in curriculum development;
Maintains updated lesson plans as prescribed by the curriculum;
Intercedes in emergency situations as required;
Attends departmental and faculty meetings;
Performs other duties as assigned; subject to availability in TVI schedule other duties may include supporting NYSSA and other standardized test administration;
