St. Mary’s Home for Boys has openings for counselors to work with at-risk boys between the ages of 13 and 17. This fast-paced job requires the ability to make quick, authoritative decisions based on standards and protocols within the St. Mary’s environment, providing consistent leadership and quality guidance to the clients.

Note: St. Mary’s is not a CMI or D & A facility.

General description of responsibilities:

    • Supervises emotionally disturbed & behaviorally delinquent adolescent boys.
    • Functions as a counselor in a cognitive/behavioral/relationship setting under the Collaborative Problem-Solving model.
    • Documents via logs and reports.
    • Participates in planning and directing activities to meet living and treatment needs.
    • Implements Individual Service Plans via treatment strategies (individual and group).
    • Serves as a primary counselor for assigned residents.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

    • BA/BS in Psychology, Sociology, Administration of Justice or other Behavioral Science field. Combination of years of education in stated fields plus experience may qualify.
    • Prior experience (paid or volunteer) in a residential treatment facility or similar setting is desired.

Additional Information:

    • Starting rate: $21.00 per hour depending on experience.
    • Primary shift: 2:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., includes weekends. Two consecutive days off during the week. May include some day shifts: 6:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.
    • Some part-time shifts available: Generally 2:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m., including weekends. Preference for regularly scheduled three shifts per week.
    • Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.
    • Tobacco & Drug free campus.
    • Hired employee must pass State and FBI background check.

Full-time positions include employer paid medical, dental, vision and life insurance; vacation and personal days; a 403(b) retirement plan and a $200 health stipend as an added bonus.

Starting Salary: $21.00 / hour = $43,680 / year

Benefits – St. Mary’s Home for Boys

Health/Vision/Dental: Providence Health, Willamette or Lincoln Financial for Dental.

Employees are eligible the first of the month following 30 days of employment. St. Mary’s pays the entire premium for employees. Employees may add dependents by paying the premium via payroll deduction.

Life Insurance and Long Term Disability Insurance are provided for employees by St. Mary’s the first of the month following 90 days of employment.

Vacation Policy – Accrual begins on date of employment; available 91st day of employment.

9 days accrual during 1st year

15 days accrual beginning 2nd year

20 days accrual beginning 5th year

Personal – Sick Days (Illness, emergencies, scheduled days off) – Accrual begins on date of employment; available 91st day of employment.

5 days available beginning 91st day of employment

6 days beginning 2nd year of employment

8 days beginning 5th year of employment

10 days beginning 10th year of employment

12 days beginning 15th year of employment

Holidays

9 Holidays – Available beginning 91st day of employment.

Dependent Care Assistance Program

Employees may set aside pre-tax dollars for reimbursement of child-care expenses.

Tax Shelter Plan (TSA)

As a not for profit agency, we provide a Tax Shelter Plan for employees.

Employees may join at any time after 90 days of employment.

After 2 years of service, St. Mary’s will contribute to the TSA as a retirement benefit. Employees must contribute a minimum of half St. Mary’s contribution.

Annual Health Stipend

To encourage employees to pursue a healthy life style and relieve stress in a positive manner, St. Mary’s currently offers a $200 annual stipend, available after 90 days of employment.
