St. Mary's/Clearwater Valley Hospital and Clinics is Hiring a Medical Lab Technician Near Cottonwood, ID

Responsible for the analysis of laboratory specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • According to policy and procedures, performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Performs calibration of equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimens when problems occur. Notifies the supervisor if unable to solve the problem.
  • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals.
  • Performs phlebotomy (venipunctures, finger sticks, bleeding times) as appropriate for the patient requiring this procedure
  • Follows hospital exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times. Follows HIPAA regulations and policies.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.
  • Communicate with patients, families and co-workers in person, in writing and on telephone.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Associate’s degree in a relevant science required.
    • Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or equivalent registration or has completed a technician training program in a school accredited/approved by HHS, or Medical Laboratory Technician eligible under Medicare laboratory regulations.
    • 6 months internship; preferred.
    • Four months’ clinical laboratory internship preferred.
    • ASCP Certification or similar certification current

      Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

      • Must be able to maintain a standing and/or sitting position.
      • Typical equipment used in a clinical job.
      • On feet a minimum of 8-12 hours, depending on length of shift.
      • Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing heavy equipment up to 50 pounds.
      • Read charts, dials, equipment settings, literature and other printed and handwritten materials.
      • Must be able to assist in patient transfer.
      • Exposure to needles, blood and body fluids, etc.
      • Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment.
      • Work with equipment and computers (keyboarding).
      • Must be able to stoop, crouch, or bend manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc.
      • St. Mary’s and Clearwater Health operates 24 hours per day each day of the year; operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the patients.
      • St. Mary’s and Clearwater Health Clinic locations have operation hours based on locations and patient needs therefore availability to work all clinic shifts, weekends and holidays as appropriate for location will be expected and required.

        Full time, 3 12 hour shifts followed by 4 10 hour shifts Overnight 7 on/7 off
