St. Mary Healthcare is Hiring a Point-of-Care Technician Near Amsterdam, NY

Job Requisition: REQ2709
Employment Type: Full-Time
Shift: Rotating
Hours Per Week: 40 hours

Hiring range: Range: $26.84-$35.91
The actual compensation for this position will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily operations of bedside glucose testing, all other POCT, specimen receiving, and office areas of the laboratory.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance with clinical laboratory safety standards and regulations.
  • Perform calibration and maintenance of pipettes and other laboratory equipment.
  • Manage scheduling, personnel evaluations, conflict resolution, and supply ordering.
  • Lead orientation and training of new employees and students in specimen processing, phlebotomy, (we can also use this position for education of the lab internship etc) bedside glucose testing, and office areas.
  • Assist in clerical and specimen processing duties as needed
  • Evaluates, validates, troubleshoots, and maintains Point of Care Testing Program.
  • Establishes, reviews, and revises policies and procedures for the POCT program.
  • Ensures that POCT meets all regulatory requirements for accreditation standards throughout the enterprise (TJC/NYS). This includes clinical staff competency.
  • Follow the guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Reviews and evaluates all Quality Control. Ensures that the test systems are functioning properly resolves technical problems and ensures that remedial/corrective actions are taken and documented as necessary.
  • Maintains and monitors comprehensive Quality Assurance.
  • Develops, delivers, and participates in training, competency, and educational programs.
  • Maintains working knowledge of infection control concepts, risk management, environmental safety, emergency preparedness, accident prevention, and disaster plans.
  • Effectively communicates, instructs, and works with health care providers, patients, and vendors on issues such as test interpretation, recommendations for alternate testing, instrumentation, and problems with specimens/methodology.
  • Implement and enforce Point-of-Care Testing (POCT) Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols.
  • Monitor and resolve issues associated with exception reports and quality control measures.
  • Act as a Clinical Laboratory Safety Inspector to ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits of laboratory facilities, equipment, and procedures to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Perform calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment, with a focus on pipettes, to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new point-of-care testing protocols and procedures.
  • Provide education and training to nurses, providers, and other healthcare professionals on point-of-care testing protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Monitor and resolve issues associated with exception reports and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to support 24/7 laboratory operations and other duties responsibilities as assigned and needed as part of your job description.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an MLT required.
  • S trong understanding of clinical laboratory operations, safety standards, and regulatory requirements required.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and train staff in point-of-care testing procedures. Proficiency in performing calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment

Certifications / Licensure:

  • Valid New York State license as a Medical Laboratory Technician
