St Mark's Episcopal School is Hiring a Primary and Lower STEAM Teacher Near Houston, TX

St. Mark’s is seeking a STEAM Teacher (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) to lead our new program tailored for PreK through 4th grade students. This role requires a dynamic educator who is passionate about STEAM and fostering an inclusive and collaborative learning environment to meet the needs of our learners. The STEAM Educator will be at the forefront of integrating interdisciplinary teaching methods that encourage play, curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. With support from the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction, this team member will design, develop, and deliver a comprehensive STEAM curriculum that engages prekindergarten to fourth-grade learners. 

Curriculum Development Duties 

  • Collaboration with the Dean of Curriculum & Instruction to launch and lead the new STEAM program rooted in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)
  • Create a STEAM curriculum that includes hands-on learning, project-based activities, coding/robotics and digital literacy.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators and the Technology Integration Specialist to create interdisciplinary STEAM projects.

Classroom Development Duties

  • Use a varied lesson approach to demonstrate the interconnectedness of STEAM subjects and their applications in everyday life.
  • Implement assessment tools to measure program effectiveness and student progress. 
  • Use data to refine and improve the STEAM curriculum continuously.
 

Professional Development Duties

  • Participate in professional development opportunities, workshops, and conferences to continuously improve instructional practices and stay current on best practices in STEAM education.
  • Share best practices and innovations with colleagues to continuously improve the quality of education.
 

Requires Skill and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Valid teaching certification for PreK-4th grade with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience, with a strong preference for candidates who have experience in STEAM education or program development. Independent school experience preferred. 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative curricula 
  • Proficient in using technology and digital tools for educational purposes.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Creative thinker with a passion for teaching and a commitment to fostering a positive learning environment.
  • Experience teaching in an independent school setting is preferred
 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment 

  • Works in a sometimes highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
  • Physical agility to lift up to 40 pounds; to bend, stoop, and reach overhead
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled classroom environment
  • Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
