The Infusion Tech is responsible for providing direct patient care as well as the registration and scheduling process for patients seen at St. Luke's University Health Network in the outpatient infusion centers. This includes, but is not limited to, correctly identifying patients, completing registration screens, entering diagnosis and provider information, verifying insurances, work queues, etc. An Infusion Tech is required to always have excellent customer service skills and exhibit PCRAFT values with internal and external customers. Infusion Tech communicates/coordinates with SLPG practices, clinical/diagnostic departments to ensure excellent patient experience. This position may require occasional travel between campuses or regional locations. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Greets/directs patients and visitors for the entire facility. Always provides friendly and courteous service to community and co-workers. Responsible for monitoring and enforcing visitor policy for the entity (if applicable) as well as the no show policy for the network infusion centers. 2. Responsible for the patient registration (pre-reg and post-reg needs) including all of the following: demographics, emergency contact, transcribing diagnostic orders, primary care and referring provider, diagnosis, insurance and guarantor verification, real time insurance eligibility. This also includes patient, account, and claim edit level work queue errors related to registration. Can require contacting provider office, reviewing patient medical chart for diagnosis and medical necessity information. 3. Verifies all insurance/self-pay patients through online eligibility. 4. Responsible to collect all loose clinical paper documentation. Analyze, sort and batch scan to Health Information Services daily. 5. Answers internal and external calls on main department/facility line and dispenses appropriate information and answers questions regarding the facility and its services Triage/Prioritize calls and distributes to RNs in the clinic when necessary. 6. Works assigned patient and account work ques as assigned to department. 7. Performs clinical procedures within scope of practice including but not limited to: Vital Signs, Glucometry,Phlebotomy – both lab draws and therapeutic phlebotomy 8. Demonstrates knowledge of EMR documentation, registration, cadence scheduling, and inbasket messaging as it relates to infusion tech role. 9. Prepare charts in anticipation of patient appointment. Working in collaboration with ordering provider office, pharmacy, blood bank, and the applicable finance team, ensuring all necessary orders and documentation is available prior to patient appointment. This includes: Signed completed orders for scheduled date of treatment Consents when applicable Financial clearance 10. Ordering and maintaining floor stock supplies and nutrition areas. 11. Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the Network/ Entity as well as the proper release of information. 13. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. 14. Complete all required competencies within learning management system and required trainings as assigned by management. 15. Demonstrates/models the Network’s Service Excellence Standards of Performance in interactions with all customers (internal and external). 16. Demonstrates Performance Improvement in the following areas as appropriate: Clinical Care/Outcomes, Customer/Service Improvement, Operational System/Process, and Safety. 17. Demonstrates financial responsibility and accountability through the effective and efficient use of resources in daily procedures, processes and practices. 18. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding attendance and dress code. 19. Demonstrates competency in the assessment, range of treatment, knowledge of growth and development and communication appropriate to the age of the patient treated. OTHER FUNCTIONS: 1. Other duties as assigned. 2. May be required to float to Network Infusion Centers sites as scheduled/needed. 3. On call rotation for Sundays/Holidays as required by department PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sit up to 7 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 10 hours per day; 8 hours at a time. Walk 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry and push objects up to 10 lbs. occasionally lift, carry and push objects up to 75 lbs. Transport patients weighing up to 250 lbs. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend. Frequently reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, and high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision. POTENTIAL ON-THE-JOB RISKS: Employees who work in patient care areas where they may have potential exposure to patients with suspected or proven tuberculosis (TB) must have the ability to wear a particulate respirator and be fit-tested in compliance with the current recommendations from the CDC (enforced by OSHA) or must provide physician documentation as to the inability to wear a particulate respirator. SPECIFIC PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT AVAILABLE: Follow MSDS and SHA precautions for exposure to physical, biological and chemical hazards. MOST COMPLEX DUTY: 1. Completion of the patient registration process 2. Entering complex chemotherapy regimens in the Cadence Snapboard Scheduling system. 3. Provision of direct patient care SUPERVISION (RECEIVED BY AND/OR GIVEN TO): Supervision by the Manager/Director Care given is directed by a Registered Nurse. COMMUNICATIONS: Must be able to communicate with other departments, patients, families, and staff. Must have ability to read, write and understand English. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have basic computer skills. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: 1. High School graduate or GED preferred 2. Health care specialty training preferred. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Evidence of successful completion of BLS or completion within 6 months of hire. Attend St. Luke’s Health Network Associate Patient Care Course or evidence of previous training determined through competency testing.
