St. Lukes Hospital is Hiring a Remote Bed Coordinator (Full-Time, Nights)

The Bed Coordinator will prioritize and coordinate patient flow activity, bed placement, and inter/intra-facility transfers for all St. Luke’s Network Hospital Campuses. Responsible to be the initial contact for all providers who wish to admit an elective, urgent, or emergent patient into a St. Luke’s Campus. The objective is to prevent inappropriate transfers while facilitating all other placements and the appropriate placement of inpatient admissions. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Answers all calls into the call center in a timely fashion while demonstrating exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette, regardless of the intent of the caller. Works efficiently out of Bed Planning and Transfer Center modules in the electronic medical records system, Epic. Effectively utilizes medical appropriateness and clinical criteria for all urgent and emergent transfers/admissions including review of patients chart to determine treatment plan, medical history, reason for admission, and special considerations for patient placement. Assigns beds for new patient admissions, including from the Emergency Department, Direct Admission, Operating Room and other admissions as required. Communicates an orderly transfer of information with each shift change. Demonstrates proper procedure and knowledge of regulations for admissions and registration. Facilitates bed cleaning and actively monitors beds for availability including written discharges Coordinates placement of OR patients with PACU/ASC to minimize disruption to the OR schedule. Communicates with Hospital Supervisor for intervention and escalation as needed. Facilitates communication between referring and receiving physicians. Assists with orientation and training of new employees. Coordinates activities in the department and promotes cooperation to the staff to achieve department objectives and maintain good interdepartmental relations. Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective working relationships within the hospital. Attends meetings as required including administrative meetings, committee and staff meetings. Demonstrates a consistent level of performance; strives to maintain a steady level of productivity and provides a consistent effort. Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA standards of all materials handled within the Network/Entity as well as the proper release of information. Complies with Network and departmental policies regarding issues of employee, patient and environmental safety and follows appropriate reporting requirements. OTHER FUNCTIONS: Fosters effective, interpersonal communications with patients, visitors, physicians, nurses, and employees of St. Luke's Health Network in a courteous, professional, and friendly manner. Responsible for ongoing detailed knowledge of the hospital computer system as it applies to registration, admissions, and transfers. Other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sitting for up to 8-12 hours per day, one hour at a time. Stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, and reaching above shoulder level rarely. Never crawling or climbing. Hearing as it relates to normal conversation. Seeing as it relates to general and near vision. POTENTIAL ON THE JOB RISKS: No risks identified. MOST COMPLEX DUTY: Coordinating several events concurrently, while on the phone with multiple parties. Assuring that patients meet medical necessity criteria. Triaging for appropriate bed placement. Utilizing computer system and phones for all work related activities. SUPERVISION: Supervised by the PAC Manager and Sr. RN Bed Coordinator. COMMUNICATIONS: Must be able to effectively communicate in a professional and timely manner with a large number of customers, both internal and external, including physicians.
