St. Luke's Hospital is Hiring a Radiology Tech / Certified Medical Assistant Near Columbus, NC

Radiology Tech / Certified Medical Assistant - Part-Time (20-29 hrs/wk) - Pain Center
Required Knowledge. Skills and Abilities:
  • Radiology Tech must have license in Radiography, AART and license must be maintained.
  • CMA certification is required within 3 months of hire date. Employee must retain that certification.
  • CPR is required.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills. Must read, speak, and write English well and have basic computer (keyboard) knowledge.
  • Must have the ability to handle difficult patients and situations in a professional manner.
  • Must be flexible in handling new and changing policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of the following equipment: Copier, fax computer keyboard and mouse, calculator, printer/scanner, and multi-line phone.
  • Responsible for taking and maintaining x-rays and equipment for St Luke's Pain Management.
  • Assist with all medical assistant duties as rooming patients and updating all clinical information including medications.
  • Assist with answering clinical phone calls. May assist with completing FMLA and all insurance forms.
  • Maintains radiation badges and all State and Federal regulations including signage.
Marginal Functions:
  • X-ray and patient exam rooms are maintained in a neat and orderly manner with the supplies adequately stocked. Phones are answered in a timely manner. 
  •  effort is made for calls not to go to the voice mail system.
  • Make sure x-ray machine is on and functioning properly.
Physical/Mental Demands:
  • Adequate to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  • Visual acuity normal.
  • Must be able to prioritize and cope with stresses in a positive manner.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for prolonged period.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Essential Functions:
  • Make sure the x-ray room clean and fully stocked ordering supplies as necessary.
  • Make sure each exam rooms are clean and fully stocked, checking expiration dates when needed. Requesting supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with patient flow by getting patients in rooms, prepares patient for physical exam, taking initial history or new problem worksheet. Takes and records vital signs, reviewing and recording medication list.
  • Backs up and assist teammates when necessary, making sure patient care is prompt and accurate.
  • Check EMR system and/or encounters for referrals, orders, and special instruction from the provider.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy/physiology of disease entities seen in the Physician office. Using good communications skills either oral or written, listening and customer service skills with patients as well as provider(s).
  • Prescription refills are checked and completed daily. These will be through the EMR system, faxed through land lines, left on prescription voice mail, or printed by the provider and left at the front desk for the patient to pick up. Patients will be notified of action taken.
  • Maintains and updates EMR as required by the practice. Not only by internal notes and messages but also by scanning any necessary paperwork.
  • Maintain sample medication cabinets, logging any incoming and outgoing medication. Monitor monthly expiration dates and logging results. Also maintains controlled substance log in same regards.
  • Maintains work area in a neat and orderly manner. Also organizes medical supply closets. Making a list of necessary supplied that need to be ordered.
  • Collects and ensures proper disposal of medical waste and/or medication(s). Ensures proper disposal of specimens from front desk container and Lab sink every evening.
  • Coordinates referrals for EMG studies and other physicians as needed. Notifying the patient and faxing required information to doctor being referred.
  • Performs required station checks and documentations as per policy and procedure guidelines. Each control will vary depending on manufacturer instructions.
  • Glucometer controls are checked before each use.
  • Eye wash station at Exam room L3 to be checked and logged lx per week.
  • Refrigerator/freezer temps for nurses' refrigerator is checked 2x a day.
  • Humidity/Temp for the office is checked lx a day.
  • Assists or performs wound care and dressing changes. Draws up meds and preps patients for injection given by the MD.
  • Escort patient to check out area making sure no work/school notes, prescriptions or other information is needed for the patient. Verifying that the patient has no questions before they leave.
  • Check for task and special instruction from the doctor thru the EMR system. Calls in prescriptions and notifies patient of action taken.
  • Charts, electronic and paper, are updated and maintained as required by the practice.
  • Performs radiologic exams as ordered by the Physician or PA
  • Selects proper technical factors on an individual patient basis demonstrating correct anatomical positioning skills.
  • Operates equipment as directed by demands of individual exams.
  • Provides radiation protection to patient, staff, and self in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
  • Assists in maintaining adequate patient records of updating, retrieving x-ray s from PACS and proper charging of exams for any radiological patient.
  • Assists with the retrieval, checking and delivery of prior films for any upcoming surgery.
  • Checks and takes instruments that need to be taken to the hospital for sterilization.
  • Coordinates referrals for EMG studies and other physicians as needed. Notifying the patient and faxing required information to Dr being referred.
  • Eyewash station checks are performed and documented as per policy and procedure guidelines.
  • Collects and ensures proper disposal of medical waste.
  • Work area is maintained in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Radiation badges are maintained.
  • Warms up x-ray equipment in the morning.
  • Wipes down x-ray equipment between patients.
  • Maintains licenses in Radiology and all required continuing education.
  • Telephone answering machine is checked on arrival in AM and at intervals through day. Messages are handled appropriately. Answering machine is kept updated.
  • Participates in staff meetings, in-services, and continuing education to maintain professional acumen.
  • Other duties as assigned
