St. Luke's Hospital is Hiring a Physical Therapy Assistant - Full-Time Near Columbus, NC

St. Luke’s Hospital has a new opportunity for an experienced Physical Therapy Assistant! A Physical therapy assistant is a licensed health care worker who performs patient care under the direction of a qualified physical therapist. This individual also performs clerical and housekeeping duties within the department as needed.
A staff physical therapy assistant is a qualified professional who is responsible for providing physical therapy services to all patient populations (pediatrics through geriatrics). Provides physical therapy services to patients who have physical impairments, functional limitations, disabilities, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes; provide prevention and wellness services, including health promotion. A staff physical therapist assistant assists in the delivery of physical therapy services however, they may not formulate or develop a patient’s plan of care.
Required Knowledge, skills and abilities: (Not an inclusive list)
1.) Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant Associate's Degree program accredited by an agency recognized by the Secretary of the United States Department of Education or the Council of Postsecondary Accreditation.
2.) Successful completion of NC Physical Therapy State Board Examination or other state equivalent is required.
3.) Current licensure by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
4.) Must hold and maintain current BCLS certification.
5.) Initiative and good judgment are required when performing any duty.
6.) Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
7.) Complies with Infection Control, Standard Precautions and OSHA standards for the healthcare professional.
8.) Able to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., face mask, goggles, latex/non-latex gloves) as needed.
9.) Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members.
10.) Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner.
11.) Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English.
12.) Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology.
Essential Functions (including but not limited to):
  • Follow a written patient care plan and make modifications of treatment that are consistent with the plan to assure that proper treatment is given.
  • Recognize and report changes in patient status so that treatment can be adjusted appropriately.
  • Recognize contraindications for treatment to assure patient safety.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics in order to avoid injury.
  • Transfer and transport patients in a manner that assures safety for both patient and self.
  • Complete department records and charges in a manner that assures accuracy and timeliness.
  • Contribute to the departmental improvement initiatives through participation in monitoring and evaluation activities.
  • Assist in maintaining the department in readiness for patient care by assuring adequate supplies and preparing treatment areas for the next patient promptly.
  • Assists with ensuring that patient appointments are scheduled so that patient waiting time is minimal and staff work time is coordinated efficiently.
  • Plan workload to assure that assignments are completed on time.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all hospital and department safety, maintenance, disaster, and infection control policies and procedures to assure a safe working environment.
  • Perform administrative and other tasks as assigned by the Director of Rehabilitation Services in order to assist in the overall operations of the department.
