Essential Functions:
Works under the direction and supervision of the CNO/VPPCS or in her absence the Nurse Manager on duty or CEO on duty.
Assesses the clinical staffing assignments and makes appropriate adjustment to accommodate patient needs as an ongoing process.
Maintains a professional and courteous relationship with unit managers and effectively communicates personnel issues or concerns through the appropriate channels for resolution at departmental level.
Keeps Administration abreast of any ongoing issues that impact the hospitals ability to ensure patient care or safety.
Appropriately assigns levels of care with bed assignments to all admissions to St. Luke's Hospital following Interqual guidelines of criteria for severity of illness and intensity of service (using MCG software).
Makes clinical rounds on a regular basis, assesses each units needs and has the ability to make appropriate decisions, ensures the safe and efficient flow of patient care through the hospital system.
Has the ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications in compliance with the physician's orders and applicable hospital policy, interpreting diagnostic tests, assessing and reassessing the patients level of pain with the appropriate interventions, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with the Interdisciplinary Team Members and providing education to patients and /or significant others (while in compliance with HIPAA)
The House Supervisor must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to patients of all age groups must- demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status, and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's needs in relation to age.
Must document/chart observations and activities related to patient care as appropriate. Documents summary of daily activities on supervisor report.
Initiates and/or assists in Hospital Codes. Leads at least 2 mock code/RRT events in conjunction with the Respiratory Therapist per month.
Knowledgeable of Hospital Disaster Preparedness Policies and procedures.
Effectively communicates with the Infection Preventionist as needed to ensure policy and procedures are followed to ensure the health and safety of staff and patients if concerns arise and in accordance with state regulations. Follow the standard for infection control; hand washing, protective eyewear, mask, gown, gloves, head cover, and shoe cover, as appropriate. Proper disposal of contaminated items and the use of isolation.
Responsible for strict administration, control and dispensations of narcotics in accordance with the hospital policy. Adheres to the operating policies and guidelines of the Pharmacy.
Competent in the management of the Morgue guidelines, assisting the Medical Examiner as needed with communication and support of families as needed. Adheres to hospital policy with documentation and securing of valuables as necessary.
Familiar with the operations and location of equipment, procedures and processes involving other departments of St. Luke's Hospital in the absence of the manager or staff. Notifies on-call personnel as deemed necessary.
Maintains a professional working relationship with the staff physicians and makes self available to assist upon request for patient related issues.
Has ability to follows established guidelines for staffing to ensure patient safety with respect for budgetary considerations.
Stays current with the policies of LifeShare of the Carolinas. Reports deaths within 1 hour per guidelines. Follows directives of LifeShare for any organ/tissue requests. Completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
Achieves and maintains Notary status.

Minimum Requirements:
1. A graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing. Supervisory experience preferred.
2. Licensure appropriate to the state of North Carolina and the appropriate certification to the position and St. Luke's Hospital.
3. Proficient oral and written communication skills with the ability to prioritize duties and delegate responsibilities.
4. Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information and maintain courteous relationships with patients, families, visitors and St. Luke's Hospital employees.
5. BLS, ACLS, PALS required and current, also has the ability to use protective equipment and respond to emergency situations.
6. Knowledge of standards, policies, procedures and organizational structure of the unit and St. Luke's Hospital. To include strict adherence to Time and Attendance policy.
7. Participates in ongoing education relative to role as defined by unit requirements.
8. Basic computer knowledge
9. Physical ability to do the job with attentiveness to detail.
