Job Summary
MAJOR FUNCTION: Assist with the planning of community recreation programs including instructional, enrichment, social, cultural arts, athletic programs, wellness, and special interest programming. Conducts community events and special programs and recreation activities with minimal supervision. Required to work varied shifts, evenings, weekends and otherwise to meet the operational needs of the Division.

Essential Job Functions
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS NEEDED TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Conduct recreation programs with minimal supervision of recreation professionals.
  • Oversee children during recreational activities and programs.
  • Assist with the planning and application of special events.
  • Must be able to produce reports, flyers and memos using a computer.
  • Work includes weekends, nights and/or varied schedules.
  • Knowledge of crowd control and large-scale evacuation methods and procedures.
  • Perform related work as requested or assigned.

ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with children and adults in a recreational or sports setting. Ability to be creative in providing games and activities.
  • Ability to perform minor clerical duties and complete facility use permits and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain control of participants during special events.

SKILLS:

  • Must have knowledge of recreation programming.
  • Basic computer skills related to email and data entry.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION:

  • Employee will assist Recreation Coordinator in conducting recreation/athletic programs and special events at County parks, community centers or sports facilities.
  • Lead children and/or adults in recreation activities (games, arts and crafts, sports, etc.).
  • Assist with logistical duties at sporting events.
  • Employee may be assigned to complete paperwork for facility rental, program registrations and financial reports.
  • Work may include night, weekend and holiday assignments. (varied schedules)
  • Perform related work as requested or assigned.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Good physical condition to lead activities and games with groups of participants. Some lifting and loading of 30 to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS: Work both indoors and outdoors. Occasional work outside includes the possibility of adverse weather conditions depending on the specific activity.

WORK HAZARDS: Inherent risk of injury while participating in physical activity.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT USED OR NEEDED: Personal protective equipment as assigned as needed.

Qualifications
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year experience in recreation programming or a related field. Working with the public.

LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION: Must have a valid Driver’s License and maintain a good driving record.

Additional Information
Pay Grade 6

Driving Position – Operating County vehicles and/or equipment is a primary function of this position.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING: This position requires a physical, drug testing, driver's license verification and level 1 background screening.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $12.00 per hour
