JOB
MAJOR FUNCTION: This is heavy manual work involving various skills in maintenance areas. Employees perform laboring tasks, may require use of cleaning agents, hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment, responsible for the upkeep and efficient operation of the tools or equipment used. Instructions are usually received orally and routine tasks are performed with considerable independence. All work is subject to inspection while in progress and upon completion. May supervise work crews and temporary staff. Duties will require employee to work rotating or irregular shift; including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet operational demands of the facility.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS NEEDED TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION: Knowledge: General knowledge and experience of the methods, materials and practices used in maintenance and general knowledge of equipment and its safe operation. Abilities: Ability to learn methods of maintaining equipment and tools. Ability to follow both oral and written instructions. Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees. Ability to work without supervision and assist with supervision of less experienced personnel. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Operates equipment used in general maintenance. Performs related work as requested or assigned, includes picking up garbage and refuse. Must operate various heavy equipment to maintain arenas and prepare for events. ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS: Constant walking, standing, and bending. Must have full manual dexterity in both hand and feet. Requires very frequent light lifting (30 lbs. or less), frequent heavy lifting and carrying (50 lbs). Reaching above the shoulders, kneeling, sitting, bending and squatting. Good vision and hearing with or without correction. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION REQUIREMENTS: Working outside under adverse weather conditions of cold, heat, humidity, rain, and lighting etc. WORK HAZARDS: Working with chemicals and power tools. General occupational hazard of being around equipment on a daily basis, general back injuries involved in physical labor. SAFETY EQUIPMENT (ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING MAY BE REQUIRED): Uniform, sturdy work shoes or boots, safety glasses, safety vest, fall prevention devices, face shield, hard hat, gloves, respirators, and foul weather gear.
