About SLPL:

St. Louis Public Library is a true urban library, representing the historic center of the St. Louis region: the City of St. Louis. With its roots in the mid-1800s, St. Louis Public Library has a long history of innovation and service, a large and historic collection including rare books and extensive special collections, and a diverse and dedicated staff. Our technology is a major resource throughout the City and beyond, and the Library makes an enormous investment in technology annually to keep them state of the art. We operate 17 locations in a relatively small city of 61 square miles. These range from our magnificent Central Library – one of the world’s great public libraries – to regional and neighborhood libraries that vary in size and design but are centerpieces in their communities. St. Louis was an early, passionate supporter of library services to children, and that remains a core value and mission. Outreach into our varied communities, marketing the Library’s remarkable strengths, and working with civic and cultural partners to benefit St. Louisans are all closely held values and goals at the Library.

About Kingshighway Library and surrounding neighborhoods:

The redesigned Kingshighway Library opened in 2001 but has existed in its current location since the 1960s. It sits at the corner of Shenandoah, Kingshighway, and Vandeventer and serves Shaw, The Hill, and Southwest Garden neighborhoods. The branch is known for its large curved window that covers its southwest face which allows ample natural light and contemplative views for customers. A distinctive circular ceiling creates an open and airy interior that feels both intimate and spacious. It features a single large auditorium for Library programs and community use and a variety of seating for both students and families alike.
It’s located just north of Tower Grove Park, west of Missouri Botanical Gardens, and across the street from Brightside STL’s Demonstration Garden. It also holds the system’s only Yarn Library, which provides free craft materials to members of the community. The branch is a destination for the neighborhood’s young families, students, and residents whose families have lived in the area for generations. It boasts one of the system’s highest circulation rates and staff pride themselves on providing a safe, quiet place for all St. Louisans to work and interact.
