St. Louis Heart & Vascular is Hiring a Prior Authorization Specialist Near Saint Louis, MO

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the prior authorization/triage specialist will be responsible for prior authorization process in relations to prescription approval, assisting with chart prep for each individual locations, and assist in completing the refills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES):

  1. Provide the necessary medical information to insurance companies to obtain authorizations for medication.
  2. Communicate effectively with insurance companies, providers, pharmacies, and patients regarding prior authorizations.
  3. Document all interactions with insurance companies, providers, pharmacies and patients.
  4. Call and verify eligibility and benefits with insurance companies.
  5. Investigate if medication was medically necessary to be covered by insurance companies through contact with doctors, nurses and pharmacists and submit for approval.
  6. Verify insurance coverage as well as having knowledge of submitting authorizations to insurance companies so patients can have prescriptions when needed.
  7. Assist the Office RN on chart prep at each locations.
  8. Assist in completing .refills in Centricity and Faxcom.
  9. Assist in organizing .triage for the nurses to better manage workload.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:

  1. High school or GED required.
  2. Must be able to travel to all SLHV locations as needed.
  3. Must have at least 1 year prescription/medication prior authorization experience. Highly prefer in Cardiology experience.
  4. Computer knowledge required, electronic medical records (EMR) highly preferred.
  5. LPN license or Certified medical assistant knowledge preferred. Medical terminology required.
  6. Must have excellent customer service skills.
  7. Must be detailed oriented and able to multi-task.
  8. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  9. Must be self-motivated individual.
  10. Strong inter-personal skills.
  11. Able to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team.
  12. Multilingual and American Sign Language (ASL) plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  1. Regular medical office environment.
  2. Must have ability to walk, sit, bend, and lift up to 10 pounds.
  3. Must be flexible and work overtime as needed.
