An employee in this job class is responsible for instructing recruit and continuing education training classes. The employee is also responsible for the supervision of a basic recruit class. Work is performed under general supervision of the Director and Basic Training Supervisor of the St. Louis County & Municipal Police Academy. Work involves a high degree of organizational skill and ability to instruct blocks of instruction on a wide variety of law enforcement topics along with supervisory and interpersonal skills.

Training and Experience:
Required: Baccalaureate Degree from any accredited college or university and have a minimum of five (5) years of previous or current experience as a police officer in order to obtain certification as a Generalist Instructor in accordance with Title II Missouri Department of Public Safety, Division 75 – Peace Officer Standards and Training Program, Chapter 4 – Certification of Instructors (11CSR75-4.0140). An Instructor with less than a Baccalaureate Degree must have a two (2) year Associates Degree and eight (8) years of previous or current police experience or a High School Diploma and ten (10) years of previous or current police officer experience.
Special Requirements:
Completion of a forty (40) hour course that will be scheduled by the Academy and must be completed within the first year of original certification as an Instructor.
AGE REQUIREMENT: Eighteen (18) years of age at the time of appointment.RESIDENCY: No residency requirement. Must be a citizen of the United States or must possess a valid work permit and must submit an application for United States citizenship when eligible.EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Educational requirements and skills will be determined by the position classification.ARREST RECORD: Must be free from conviction of a Felony. A Class "A" Misdemeanor conviction will be cause for immediate dismissal from the process, unless otherwise directed by the Chief of Police.MILITARY: Must not have a "Dishonorable"discharge or"Bad Conduct" discharge if having served in the military. All "Other Than Honorable"discharges will be reviewed on an individual basis.COMPETITIVE SELECTION PROCESS
