OverviewEMT IProvides professional patient care and transportation in accordance with all departmental and St. Joseph Health System operating policies, city and state laws, and applicable contracts under direct supervision.

With the area’s only Level II Trauma Center the first Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Center and the first accredited Chest Pain Center in the Brazos Valley; CHI St. Joseph Health is a leader in critical care and the largest provider of cardiovascular care in the region. As an integrated healthcare system CHI St. Joseph Health includes a comprehensive network of over 100 employed providers including primary care physicians specialists and advanced practice clinicians. The network includes more than 20 ambulatory clinics featuring primary care a freestanding Emergency Room Express Clinics and imaging and diagnostic services.
Responsibilities
  • Personal, crew, patient and bystanders safety: scene size up, emergency scenes are dynamic events; EMT should always look out first for their safety and then the safety of others.
  • Patient Assessment and delivery of care: provides patient care functions according to protocol, procedure and written directives to level of certification. Performs a patient assessment throughout a call on every patient encountered, providing appropriate treatment and transportation decisions.
  • Maintains and improves skill level and knowledge base: attendants/participates in 75% of annual departmental training and completion of annual Skills Competency Fair.
  • Transport and Transfer of Care: verifies patient identification prior to transport, contacts receiving facility prior to delivery along with providing a patient care report, also providing safe delivery to or from the hospital and aircraft. Transfer the patient to the appropriate facility and health care provider giving complete/accurate verbal patient care report. Assures geographic knowledge of service area (communities, towns, cities and counties), utilizing appropriate map/GPS reading skills.
  • Record keeping and data collection: neatly and accurately completes written and electrical Patient Care Reports (ePCR), leaves a copy of the transported patient's report in every facility - ED.
  • Patient Advocacy: assist patient with special concerns that will need to be brought to hospital personnel's attention (i.e. geriatric patient who may require additional home care).
  • Completes daily equipment checks and maintenance: Assures equipment readiness, including cleaning as needed or required, along with proficiency in equipment operation safely, repairs within scope of abilities, and reports deficiencies when noticed to supervisor and relief crew. Checks Email, ESO, AMBUTRAK and other information devices while on duty daily.
QualificationsRequired Education and Experience
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
Required Licensure And Certifications
  • Texas Depart of State Health Services EMT-B License;
  • Valid Texas Drivers license;
  • AHA BLS
Pay Range$12.80 - $17.60 /hour
