Employment Status: Part-Time / 5 hours per week

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)

Schedule/Work Hours: Thursday - Sunday, schedule may vary

Reports to: Pastor

 

Summary:

The Coordinator of Elementary Religious Education is responsible for the application of a parish catechetical program(s) for youth up to age 17. This Position will supervise and work with volunteers to coordinate healthy religious programs for children and youth and work with the Pastor in administrating a parish faith formation program. Develops, directs, and evaluates a total parish catechetical program and provides leadership to assist parish community in building a solid foundation for spirituality, Christian living, ministry, and outreach. This position will also perform basic administrative duties related to the Faith Formation Program and will maintain files and records of students. The Coordinator will also connect the parents and families in the program to the larger parish community. Other responsibilities may include: preparing and distributing weekly bulletin communication (both paper and electronic) to parents.

 

Responsibilities:  

  • Organizes, schedules and coordinates the faith formation for youth of a particular level or group or assists with this task.
  • Prepares and schedules or assists with sacramental programs and liturgies.
  • Schedules Interviews with parents/family before start of Faith Formation program for children receiving the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation.
  • Oversees the registration process, including Religious Education Program on Sundays
  • Orders textbooks, teaching materials and resources for the program.
  • Prepares or offers input on an annual budget and monthly grade level activities and updates.
  • Prepares with a yearly calendar for the program and Faith Formation Commission
  • Supervises assigned grade levels or groups in the Faith Formation program.
  • Plan and organize the entire year of the Parish Faith Formation Program in accordance with the solemnities of the Parish/Catholic Church. Important: Five topics: Sacred Scripture plus the four "pillars" of the Catechism of the Church: Creed, Liturgy and Sacraments, Christian Morality, and Prayer
  • Schedules at the pastor's directive dates for First Recollection retreat for Penance and First Holy Communion, First Penance and First Holy Communion
  • Advises and visits with students, parents/guardians, catechists if problems or concerns arise.
  • Meets with the pastor regularly to discuss matters relating to the Parish Faith Formation and sacramental preparation
  • Prepares and coordinates with the pastor/pastoral administrator sacramental rites for students.
  • Collaborates with pastoral staff to integrate the total faith formation plan for the parish.
  • Meets monthly with pastoral staff for planning and integration of Religious Education programs with whole parish programs.
  • Monitor and order supplies.
  • Maintains and assists with sacramental records, notifications, and certificates on parish grounds per Diocese guidelines.
  • Ensures that the Safe Environment requirements, policies, and mandates for the Parish Faith Program are in compliance with Office for Child and Youth Protection.
  • Maintains continuous education and training in the faith.
  • Adheres to Archdiocese Code of Conduct and safe environment mandates.
  • Inventory of the Faith Formation Office (books, items, etc....) at the end of the year
  • Other duties as assigned by Pastor 

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Active member of a Roman Catholic parish faith community. (Sometimes this requirement may be satisfied by a person who has knowledge of and is willing to function in a manner consistent with the mission of the Catholic Church).
  • Bilingual – (English and Spanish)
  • Preferred Three years of parish and/or administrative office experience
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to communicate with various levels of staff, management, parishioners, and the public.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays due to work an unpredictable schedule when necessary.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse individuals and groups

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and organize work effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to compose correspondence, minutes and/or reports.
  • Exellent communication skills, ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parishioners, and the general public.
  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions furnished in writing or orally
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
