The Victim Advocate is responsible for assisting victims of crimes by providing them with emotional support, advising them of their legal rights, monetary compensation, and providing education for the prevention of further victimization. This position assists with death notifications, is subject to a regular call-out rotation, provides on-scene psychological first aid, assists law enforcement and other community agencies as a liaison to victims of crime, and refers victims to services best suited for their needs. This position also speaks before the public on issues pertaining to victimization. This position requires mandatory psychological counseling sessions on a bi-annual basis or as requested by advocate via agency contracted provider. This position requires compassion, knowledge of contemporary victim’s right issues, ability to resolve problems on behalf of victims.
