ST JOHNS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE is Hiring a Payroll Specialist - 2/14/2023 Near Saint Augustine, FL

Primary Purpose

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for timecard maintenance, bi-weekly payroll processing, maintaining accruals, monitoring tax related forms/report, W4 processing, job verifications, workers comp wage statements, and other related duties assigned.

Education and Qualification Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Associates degree or 1-2 years related work experience preferred
  • Type 25 WPM accurately
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Basic knowledge of general office equipment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Duties

  • Process payroll biweekly
  • Submit online payments for 941 taxes, child support, and deferred compensation after each payroll
  • Provide approved payment requests to Accounts Payable after each pay for employee and retiree health insurance, garnishments, and other payroll deductions paid
  • Verify all Personnel Action Forms received from Human Resource
  • Verify new W4 forms
  • Enter new hire direct deposits
  • Approve and post incoming W4 changes
  • Approve and post direct deposit changes
  • Prenote new accounts with the bank
  • Complete job verifications
  • Prepare workers comp wage statements
  • Maintain employee payroll deductions
  • Correct payroll/timecard entry errors from previous payroll
  • Manage and balance employee garnishments
  • Review timecard submittals to ensure all employees have accurately entered their time and it has been approved by both employee and supervisor
  • Balance 941 spreadsheet after each pay
  • Input sick and vacation accruals for the new pay period
  • Compile calendar and fiscal pay schedule
  • Report employee count to labor statistics monthly

  • Demonstrates a positive working relationship with personnel in the Agency
  • Adhere to laws/agency policy/rules/regulations/SOP/procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality/security of files and information obtained in the course of employment
  • Process/compile/disseminate record/public record information as directed by approving authority in accordance with lawful requirements
  • Adhere to leave, overtime and attendance policies/procedures (i.e. arrive promptly, regular attendance at work, notification to supervisor regarding absence from work due to illness or untimely incidents, etc.)
