St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners and St. Johns County Public Library System (SJCPLS) is seeking a Library Services Specialist focused on Youth and family services to serve mainly at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library located in beautiful St. Johns County, Florida. SJCPLS encourages a love of literature, the arts, and lifelong learning by providing a variety of information, resources, and entertainment to the community. SJCPLS serves all areas of St. Johns County, including St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fruit Cove, and Hastings. The Library System has six branches, bookmobiles, and offers books-by-mail service. In addition to books, periodicals, and online databases, SJCPLS offers computer access, notary services, Inter-Library Loan, access to a Seed Library, test proctoring, and many volunteer opportunities. The Library System also offers a dynamic range of programming for adults, teens, and children.Employees work in a team-oriented environment and are responsible for assisting with library circulation, reference, youth and adult service areas. St. Johns County Public Library System staff work cooperatively between all branches and bookmobiles to provide needed public services throughout St. Johns County. Staff are subject to work assignments at other library branches, county locations, and outreach events on occasional, semi-permanent, or permanent bases depending on staffing and public need.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The ideal Library Services Specialist candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to: Participates in circulation activities as assigned: issues and cancels patron’s borrower cards; resolves lost or damaged items; processes hold requests; collects fines and fees.Participates in collection management activities as assigned: processes library materials for distribution; sorts donations; empties book drop; conducts bibliographic searches; shelves circulated and in-house materials; reads shelves for accuracy and propriety; identifies items for replacement or repair; mends books and other library materials.Participates in reference activities and general inquiry: answers recurring or procedural questions regarding borrowing and access privileges, reader’s advisory, interlibrary loans, simple reference questions, and other library services or programs; assists patrons with computer reservations and operations; provides technical or clerical assistance in the selection of books or other library materials; provides technology demonstrations to patrons regarding how to access available services.Participates in library programs and community events as assigned: operates and adjusts audio visual equipment; assists others in preparing meeting spaces to accommodate service delivery; collects and compiles statistics.Works a rotating schedule to include weekends, evenings and holidays or other branches as assigned.
